It wasn't that late, but already Cady could tell that sleep was not going to come. She couldn't seem to make her mind quiet down, and for once it wasn't just the horrific nightmares plaguing her peace. While she had suffered many sleepless nights, or nights where she woke screaming and gasping with the thundering sound of a gunshot ringing in her ears, tonight was not about that. It was in the back of her mind, for once, and on the forefront were the feelings she'd been having towards Kaleb recently. Things had progressed into a relaxed sort of rhythm since the attacks, and their bodies were finally all but healed. Cady still had a few tweaks, and of course the scars, but physical therapy and time had helped with a majority of the discomfort. She and Kaleb had gotten back to a sort of cautionary normalcy, though she still felt some days like they were holding back.
Cady didn't want to hold back anymore. They had almost died. She wasn't going to waste anymore time.
She understood it was a huge deal, but she felt ready. Every time Kaleb's skin brushed hers lately, it felt like she was on fire. Not the bad kind like when she'd been shot, but the good kind; like when she held a flame to her skin. As a phoenix, fire didn't effect her the same way as it did some, and it was that sweet ache, that thrill, that Kaleb made her feel. They had danced around their feelings despite what they'd been through, and she wanted to stop tip-toeing around. If she couldn't tell him she loved him, couldn't tell him that she wanted to be with him, then she didn't deserve the second chance they'd been given. It was time to be brave.
Climbing out of bed, Cady threw a robe on over her the cutest nightgown she could find, then slipped her feet into sandals. The night air was cool, but spring was finally taking hold and she didn't find the walk uncomfortable at all. On the contrary, it was quite nice to stroll under the clear sky with the stars seeming to glow overhead. When she arrived at Kaleb's door, she took a deep breath, her heart thudding so loud she was sure he'd hear it in lieu of a knock. Once she felt ready, Cady raised an arm to knock, adjusting the hair wrap around the sexy escaping tendrils of her organized chaos bun. She had to do something as she waited, lest she chicken out and run away for fear of him thinking she was silly...
