THREAD: RORY & REILAND
WHO: R-n-R (Rory and Reiland)
WHEN: April 14th, afternoon/evening after that GB blast.
WHERE: The dance studio
WHAT: Rory needed to think, which is always dangerous. Perhaps some comfort. We'll see.
OPEN: Maybe.
After the Gossip Bitch post, Rory had slipped into a private dance studio. It was still her sanctuary, even though there were days she felt the impersonal mirrors and the barre still mocked her inability to do the things she used to be able to. It wasn't that there was as much pain as there had been months ago, it was just that her muscle memory wasn't quite up to par. Her body wouldn't always obey her. She took physical therapy three times a week, a yoga class and practiced some with Reiland when she could. It wasn't that he wasn't her partner anymore, because he was, but it was obvious to everyone else but him that she was holding him back. Even their coach. Whom she had a meeting with a few days ago. It hadn't gone the way Rory wanted.
Dressed in simple work-out dance clothing Rory had been going through her normal routine of stretching, taking twice as long as it used to before her accident. Her pointe shoes lay a few feet away, unused. Normally she didn't even try, she was afraid to try. Her strength was better then it had been and she could dance, if one wanted to call it that. Rory was unimpressed with her own progress and was her own worst critic at all times. There were the occasional small victories, but they were far and few between. The physical therapist and doctors were still trying to tell her not to push herself that this wasn't something she was going to bounce back from. The physical therapist had point blank told her she would never dance again. Not the way she used to. And then the bitch told her coach. The jist of their meeting was to tell the dancer she needed to let Reiland go, tell him to move on and pick a new partner. She was just holding him back, she would never be at his level again.
Rory hadn't told anyone about that meeting. Or about her break-up with Garrett a month ago. She didn't want to deal with any of it. So she kept quiet and did her school work, did her exercises, and then went back to her room. Lather, rinse, repeat. It was easier that way. The people in her life weren't stupid, they knew there was more going on then she let on, but she just wasn't talking. She was just tired of all the pity and all the looks she got when she talked about dance. Like none of them believed she would dance again, like it hurt them to hear her talk about it. There were a handful of people who didn't do that, who encouraged her, like her brother and Reiland. And then GB had happened, blowing up her spot about Garrett even though they had both been quiet about the break-up. It had been ugly, no holds barred with all the built up resentment between them both, but still it had been their business and they had kept it that way. Or so she thought. And of course he was shacking up with Nacola. It was pathetic how he panted after the angel princess, and then pretended it wasn't anything but platonic. Thinking about it made her angry all over again and she used that feeling to push her through being tired and began to dance. She still used the barre for support when Reiland wasn't there to hold onto her. It made her feel weak, but it was necessary.
She heard the door open when someone else entered. She raised her eyes to Reiland's in the reflection of the mirror. Of course he would have gotten the stupid blast. "I'm fine," she told him sharply before he could ask, which just told her best friend just how not okay she was.
