While Tay approached his sister's bed, Vi took the opportunity to move over and crouch beside Ren. She could see the look in his eyes; could see the fear and despair. He looked utterly defeated as he slid to the floor, and she could feel her heart breaking as she looked at him. Tay was standing beside the younger girl, a heartbreaking look on his face, and Vi knew she would have to go be his support too. Right now, though, Ren looked seconds away from falling utterly apart.
"Hey," she said softly, catching his attention from the blank stare ahead of him. Vi peered into his face, concern on her face. "You did a good job, you know, getting her here." She wasn't going to bother telling him that it was alright or ask how he was doing. How Ren was doing was written plainly on his face. Reaching out, she placed a hand on his arm, trying to give some comfort and strength with the touch. "They're going to take good care of her," she added softly, but had no time to say more before Tay was coming back over.
Rising to her feet quickly, she moved to him as he demanded answers from Ren, placing calming hands on his shoulders. "Baby, calm down," she said softly, eyes pleading as she spoke and one hand moved to cup his cheek so he was looking at her instead of the broken boy on the floor. Vi didn't want him to make his sister's boyfriend feel worse, and she knew Tay would feel guilty once the anger ebbed off. It wasn't Ren's fault, but placing blame was natural when emotions were high and fear was threatening to take over.
Glancing back at Ren, she tried a more gentle approach. "Is there anything you can remember? Anything she said, anything you heard on the phone, anything you saw when you got to her?"
