Who: Mercy and Gerard
Where: Her dorm
When: Friday afternoon
What: Being Cute, easing Mercy's worries and so on
Rating: Fairly low, I think? but who knows
Mercy was in a surprisingly good mood. She had spent most of the summer trying to hide how scared and nervous she really was. She was excited for her baby and she already loved the new life she was carrying more than she could have ever realized. She loved this baby as much as she loved Gerard but she had spent the summer surrounded by people how looked at her pregnancy like it was bad. So bad. Her parents hadn't taken the news well, alot worse than she had expected them to. Maybe that was because they thought of her as such a smart and good girl. They had never seen this coming. Whatever the reason that had made it pretty clear that she didn't need to include them in this. She was sure they wouldn't mind if she didn't come home. Her dance coach had taken it even worse. Mercy had expected that though. She had hid it from her with any excuse she had come up with until she had to refuse an audition. She would have been about eight months pregnant when that show would have started. There was no point doing the audition. To say her coach had been angry with was an understatement. Mercy was pretty damn sure she was going to have to find a new dance coach after she had the baby. But now that she was back at school there were people that had a different reaction. Maybe it was that or maybe it was just the fact that she wasn't trying to hide it anymore but she felt better. She was actually letting herself get excited for this baby.
The fact that her mindset was better however didn't make it easy to accept some of the changes she was going though. Her growing belly was the major one. She still wasn't very big but at 17 weeks she was definitely starting to feel like she was. She was running out of clothes that fit her now and had taken to wearing summer dresses most of the time. She was going to have to go shopping soon but she still hadn't told anyone, not even her boyfriend, about her parents' reaction. She was pretty sure they wouldn't pay for maternity clothes for her. Actually she hadn't told Gerard about her coach's reaction either. She justified it by saying he was nervous enough about the baby, he didn't need all the extra worry. She never really thought about the fact that she didn't need to be carrying it by herself.
After classes she had returned to her dorm and pulled off her summer dress. It was her habit to change into dance clothes so she could practice for a couple hours before dinner. But when she looked in the mirror it she suddenly could see how very obvious the bump was getting. Her shorts and sports bra wouldn't work and she had suddenly completely forgotten about dance.
She stood in front of the mirror inspecting her stomach. She had never had anything but a perfectly flat belly before. She couldn't help but think about how this could change how pretty people thought she was, or rather how pretty Gerard though she was. It was really only his option that she cared about She couldn't even say she saw herself as pretty at the moment. The knock on her door only half drew her attention as she inspected herself, a look of disapproval on her face.
"Come in." she answered without taking her eyes away from the mirror. She only looked up when she heard the door close again. As her eyes fell on her boyfriend she tried to smile before she spoke. "tell me the truth, am I still pretty? Even with this?" she asked as she indicated her baby bump. It felt like a dumb question as she asked it but she couldn't help it.
