Dallas really couldn't have been happier. Ever since he and Grace had told each other how they felt, things had been even more perfect than normal...which was really saying something for the young couple. He couldn't remember a time he had been so elated, so uplifted all the time, and he really had to hand it to all the people who described love in their songs or books or whatever. It really was the best feeling in the world, which Dallas was sure made him cheesy for even thinking but he didn't care. He had the most perfect girl in the world as his girlfriend, and as if that weren't enough, she actually loved him! Grace was totally worth the wait as far as relationships and falling in love went. It might seem extreme, but Dallas knew she was going to be his first (and only!) everything.
Of course he didn't forget what today was, though he wasn't sure if that made him lame or not. Grace hadn't said anything so he didn't know if she even celebrated that kind of thing. They had been together for a whole year, though it seemed like just yesterday that they were at the Masquerade as friends and he'd realized there was so much more to the beautiful girl that had been right in front of his face the whole time. Dallas couldn't believe he'd been so blind, but he also kind of liked that they had been friends first. It gave them time to get to know one another without all the awkward pressures of dating. Once things became official it was just awkward trying to coordinate their new feelings with the old; there was none of that uncertainty because you didn't know the other person well.
When Grace invited him over for dinner, he figured she was just being her usual sweet self. She still hadn't mentioned their anniversary, which made Dallas a little nervous. What if she'd forgotten? It was just a date, sure, but he felt like it was SO important in his mind that it was a little disappointing for it not to be in hers too. That didn't sound like his girlfriend, however, so he just ignored those insecurities as he got ready. He didn't overdo it, but did put on nice clean and pressed jeans, along with a button down top to accentuate his blue eyes. It was simple, but he felt like Grace would appreciate the look. He also hoped she appreciated the flowers he picked up after classes, and the small gift he carried in his pocket.
Arriving at her room right on time, Dallas knocked on the door and waited with excited impatience. Seeing Grace, a smile tugged up his face, making him look cheesy and overly smitten he was sure but he didn't care. "Hello beautiful," he greeted, still beaming at her. It took a few seconds before he remembered his offerings, so handed Grace the flowers first. "Happy anniversary," he added, a bit bashfully. He couldn't wait any longer and if she didn't celebrate then he could go from there.
