This was clearly worse than he thought it was. He had never seen Emilie cry before and it tore at his heart to see her in this state. She melted into him and cried harder. He just pulled her closer to him. It had been a long time since they had been this close and it was serving only to remind her how much he really missed having her around.
He was at a loss for words as she started to explain. He had no idea Lourdes had overdosed. Though that would explain why he hadn't seen her lately. And something about Detroit? That also might explain why she seemed to be acting odd. He was completely at a loss at how to comfort her. But it was that last sentence that really threw him for a loop though. What was he supposed to say to that.
He stayed clear of Emilie because of her lifestyle, not because of what she was. He had been a mess long before he had started things with Emilie just like Lourdes and Dee had been. Did her powers make things worse for them. Brayden didn't really know. But he knew there were lots of people spent time with that didn't have the fucked up issues.
"You don't destroy people, Emilie." he told her firmly. He knew a firm voice was the only thing that was going to get through to her. "People destroy themselves." Brayden looked at the girl in his arm. He had never seen tears that tore at his heart so much. "No. I'm not happier, Em." he told her honestly. He was healthier now but he still missed her. There had been so much to their relationship than anyone else had known.
"I miss you. I hate seeing you beat yourself up." He leaned back just enough so he could look into her eyes better. "So your a vice demon. That doesn't mean you destroy the people around you. People make their own choices." She wouldn't believe that easily. "I meet a vice demon in rehab. He was one of the counselors."
