Kalifornia Salem was annoyed. Very annoyed. She had been annoyed since Chester decided he would much rather go out with JA for the New Year’s Eve that attend the gala with her. He had already agreed to go with her and he had gone with her before, which clearly meant he felt justified in telling her that the gala was boring and didn’t want to go. As a result she was now refusing to speak to him. Not that he had tried to speak to her.
Another result was the fact that she was now dressed in an absolutely gorgeous dress attending a gala with her sister and her sister's boyfriend. She hated the feeling of being a third wheel. Blake and Brooklyn were practically perfect. More than that they were so happy whenever they were together. Even if not everyone saw that.
Any visible sign of her annoyance was gone the moment they arrived. One of Kalifornia's greatest skills was that she could be having the worst day of her life but someone would ever know if she didn’t want them to. Which was exactly the case here. She was here to socialize and play the political scene of the witch elite. Which is why it was why Brooklyn and Kalifornia were here and none of the other Salem’s. She spent the party smiling and laughing with everyone around her. She accepted dances and drinks and generally appeared to have a wonderful time.
It was later in the evening when she slipped away. Keeping the perfect facade was exhausting. The moment she stepped outside her facade dropped. When she was alone there was no need for it. Kalifornia slipped her phone out of her bag and checked for messages. Nothing. She had really thought that Chester would at least message by her by now. The fact that he hadn't annoyed her more.
Kalifornia hadn't looked up when she heard someone join her on the balcony but she did rearrange her face in to a pleasantly neutral expression. She focused on her attention on her phone as she didn’t want to encourage conversation. At least until she heard his voice. Her eyes landed on Lucian as he approached her. With him came the familiar feeling that she simply refused to name, even to herself. She did, however, ignore the fact that he reminded her that she was indeed alone.
"Well he clearly thinks he did." She answered him. She said it with a smile hiding the true annoyance in her words. She didn’t miss the way his eyes moved over her and she most certainly didn’t mind.
