Cultist. (10 character max). Look, secret societies are nothing new on these elite ivy league colleges. It’s just that… well… this secret society actually has magic and rituals and stuff. What are they up to? Eh, it depends on the cultist. (Good place to put magic using characters.)
I created the network! (1-3 characters). You are responsible for creating the network used in game. Why is that a big deal? This isn’t a normal network. It has some pretty interesting implications (that you get to come up with). Everyone in the AU is on a beta to test the network being used. Is it somehow responsible for the situation we’re all in? (Optional Mini Plot: Folks who didn’t have a phone coming into the game? ….The phone they found at the start of the game is the same phone their AU version had for this plot. Weird.)
It’s not me! I’m normal!! (Unlimited). Aw, man. Your character isn’t a cultist or a mad scientist. They’re just trying to go to school and get a good education. Or teach. Or whatever. Not all of your characters have to be up to no good. Some of them just might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Messing with Time & Space (5 character max). Who doesn’t want to work on time travel? This seems like perhaps the number one cause of everyone’s current situation, but maybe or maybe not. These characters (professors, tas, some promising undergrad assistants) decided to fuck around with spacetime. It happens.
Not Meant to Meddle! (?? characters). Don’t want to work on the network? Spacetime? Maybe you were up to something else? Was it science? Was it magic? Were you making monsters? Idk! Pitch the idea.
Special Agents (2 characters). You and your partner work for the Federal Bureau of Control. It is a very mysterious governmental agency. So mysterious, you don’t even have the clearance to go to the main headquarters, instead you take your orders remotely from the offices of another federal agency. Your mission? Pick one of the filled strange prompts to investigate (work with the players of that prompt so that you all can have fun).
You Decide! (Talk to Me). Look, the prompts above are just ideas. I’m pretty willing to be open to whatever it is you want to explore or come up with in this AU. Maybe something your character does is going to come back to haunt the game later. Maybe not! We’ll find out. The above prompts are suggestions.
Plot with each other, fill out of the form to let other players know what you’re planning for your character and what you’d like to write with others.
So what is this plot? Is it real? Is it what happened to the campus?
Unknown! Maybe in an alternate universe your characters were responsible for this plot! Maybe someone else is, and your characters are reliving it as some kind of clue. Your characters can come up with wild theories!
I really [loved/hated] this plot. Are we going to revisit this in the future?
That depends entirely on if people enjoyed it and there’s more potential down the road. If it doesn’t work, then it’s going to be a one off. If people are super into it and want a second go to continue what their AU characters were up to, then we totally can. We’ll follow up afterward and see how people feel about it.
What if we want to put our characters in an AU relationship?
I have no problem with that as long as no one screams about non-con afterward. If your characters would not be okay with waking up the following week remembering an AU relationship, then do not do it and don’t subject the rest of us to it. But if it’s something your characters can be like “That was weird and awkward” whether you play it up for the lolz or maybe it does jump start something, then that’s fine.
Are the characters trapped in the pocket dimension?
No! This is the real, full campus, located in a small New England town. It's Your characters may not even live on campus. They might have an apartment or a house in the suburbs. (Don’t worry, they’ll be back in their pocket dimension next week.)
What time period is this plot?
Hard to say. The style might be anywhere from 1990s - 2010s. The technology is kind of hard because the university itself is working on really advanced stuff. So again, it feels like it could be anywhere from 1990s - 2010s. Also this is an alternate dimension that might have developed differently from other worlds. It takes place during the week before spring break, plenty of people seem to be checking out early.
Can I use a AU/plot journal for my character for the purposes of icons?
Yes! Icons are limited, changing them is a pain. I’m totally fine with you bringing in a different journal so you can play a different age version of your character.
Will you allow new characters to come in during this plot?
I'm thinking no. At least not from new players. Characters need to get in before the plot starts or after because I think it would be too confusing for a new player to come in during the middle of it. Existing players need to talk to me if they get inspiration to bring in a new character in the middle of this plot.
