Three days of this big weird rock monster following him around. Amos didn't mind, it was quiet enough and kind of cute in a way. When it did make noise, it was mostlygrumbles and repeating one word over and over: "Gigalith." Odd choice of words, but it worked as well as a name as any and better than most.
He'd been taking the Gigalith outside a couple of times a day with the vague idea that pets needed walks. This time, some little shit of a kid asked him for a battle. Amos had stared in disbelief. He wasn't one to walk away from a fight, but he would never hit a kid.
Then the kid informed him that the Gigalith was supposed to fight, and produced a weird little critter of his own, an almost offensively adorable blue thing.
Amos had hated the dog fights in Baltimore. It was one thing for a person to fight, when they knew full well what they were getting into. It was another to torture some creature just trying to get by to fight for you.
Amos had tried to take the blue thing, much to the shock of the kid, the blue thing, and the Gigalith. One long, confusing explanation later found Amos sitting on a bench, one hand on the Gigalith. If Naomi was here, maybe she could have explained it better. But he had a hard time picturing her, picturing any of the Roci's crew thinking it was okay to make animals fight for their entertainment, even if there was no serious harm done at the end of it all. It just didn't sit right.
He stared at nothing, turning that over and over in his mind.
