The residents of Las Mudas quickly took a liking to Jake (Jacabo in Spanish, with the "J" sounding more like an 'H"). Between his native accent, the way he dressed, and his complexion, he was welcomed as part of the group much faster than the gringos that sometimes would come to visit.
Taking advantage of this, and volunteering to help a few of the residents with some their chores, he started learning more about social dynamics, not only of Las Mudas, but of Sweetwater, and the towns beyond. At the same time, Jake dropped hints that we was hoping to use his skills for something more.
In the evening, while relaxing in the cantina with his legs resting up on the table, he was approached by some rough looking men who wondered if Jacabo was interested in earning money. They were looking for new hands to help their boss in Pariah, and he seemed like the sort they needed. Jacob accepted, but they needed to have him first speak to their boss.
