Re: PROMPT 2: Kate Bishop (and Loki)
"Ominous cactus?" Kate snorted under her breath, glancing up at him. "Sounds like you found your band name."
She watched as group of people seemed to sneak between two buildings, sharing what sounded like a tale of adventure. They were heading out on the train tomorrow, back to the real world. What did that even mean? Was this world not real? Was this another simulation like the damn Matrix world? She hoped not; she wasn't eager to relive the days of having no hair and no muscles. Those needles were not fun.
The horses and flies caught her attention. A man was offering to loan the horses to another couple for a few pennies. Flies circling horses was normal. Back when she was younger, she'd gone through a Horse Phase. Spending time in a stable outside of the city several days a week, taking riding lessons. She outgrew it after her mother died, or maybe she fell into a depression and lost interest. Either way, it had been a long time since she'd really ridden a horse for more than a few moments. But she did remember the flies and how they annoyed the crap out of the horses, that there were a lot of fly-driven diseases that were caused by biting insects.
Horses usually used their tails to swat the flies away from them, sometimes it would drive them to distraction if there were too many. These two horses weren't doing any of that, but the flies still landed on them and she assumed they still bit them. It was animal instinct; they should just swat them automatically.
"Hang on a second." She stopped walking to stand near the horses, but not behind them. She wasn't quite that dumb, even with Clint around. "You see that?" She pointed at the flies on the horses' backsides. "That's... that's not normal."
