ROSE/STEVE R.
Steve only smirked. He was trying to channel her youthful energy himself, and feeling older than ever even as he kept up. Part of him wanted to tell her about the Howlies and how well she'd fit in, even as the rest of him reminded himself he'd just wind up sounding like an old sermonizer recalling the 'good ol' days' even if they were anything but.
Keeping pace, he reminded to keep track of his exhaustion levels. There was no way he was going to let her stay out on her own, and if he had to pull his Captain voice out to do it and drag her back to campus, he would. It would earn him no respect or trust, but the young firecracker wasn't going to be abandoned or slowed down if he could help it. Besides, the need for food was becoming a real issue for the whole community back at camp. Those who could scavange needed to be, even with the clearly stated risk.
"See anything?" he called lowly after they'd circled almost halfway around the building, torn between checking his phone and saving its battery. It was a lifeline rapidly dying, and ultimately he decided against it.
