A few weeks ago, the concept of time travel would have been as odd as space travel to Hunter. But he'd had confirmation that the time pools weren't as much a myth as thought, so someone being from the future... Not much of a stretch, especially considering just the advances that had come between the Savage Ages and now. Plus the words were familiar. Portal for them was a literal door, but theories he'd read in old books, he could see how that'd look like a ratworm crawling through space the way it would through earth. "Water-rich... That sounds like the Demon Realm. Most of our world is ocean. But it's so vast and the sea so dangerous, what's beyond the Boiling Isles is shrouded in mystery. I can't even imagine a desert. This place is the closest I've been."
He couldn't help the cocky tilt to his smirk, considering he was getting a clue enough of just how strange this place was. Although the bar wasn't high. Finding himself in the human realm of a different time was enough without counting in the whole whatever cartoons were. "Like getting turned into a fox?"
And there it was. That familiar reading. Considering, yes, he was off kilter in this new world, lucky to have Luz and Flapjack, but there had been more developing back home. Friends. Adults who actually seemed to care. Actually for real care. Not whatever he'd been getting from his 'uncle'. Which is why he felt opening up about this little bit of his world lore was ok.
"He's more than that. He's a Palisman. He was carved from a palistrom tree... ages ago... There aren't many trees left, so there aren't many around..." Which was a topic he was going to think too hard about for various reasons. Flapjack seemed to sense the discomfort though, as he chirruped, headbumped Paul's fingers, and then flew over to pull at that errant tuft of hair before settling on Hunter's shoulder. He laughed softly, tilting his head to bump against the cardinal. "... but he chose me. Even if it wasn't the safest choice..." He paused a moment before focusing on Paul. "I'm sorry. About the people who left. And I know I'm new, but... If you want a 'hey are you going to that party' check in, that.. uh would go both ways... I... I'd be ok with that."
