He couldn't help but look up at the sky as well. Arrakis was out there, as of yet uninhabited at this point in time. It was strange to think about. "I'm from a distant future," he explained. "Space travel had been developed. FTL travel, in short. Faster than light. It creates something almost like a portal, but we call it a wormhole instead." Paul returned his attention to Hunter. "I've been to two. I was born on Caladan, a water-rich planet and home to House Atreides. We were sent to oversee Arrakis, which is the opposite. A harsh desert planet."
Paul's concept of what was odd had changed a lot since his arrival. Pointed ears were on the low scale of strangeness compared to talking mice and raccoons and robots that were smarter than humans - something that was outlawed where he came from. "I think you'll be surprised, there are much odder things here. And don't worry, I think we're all learning a lot here, so you're in good company."
He smiled as he ran his index finger along Flapjack's feathers. Paul had never had a pet or an animal friend, though he could see the merits of it if this was what it was like. "Animals are so much wiser than we give them credit for." He kept petting Flapjack as he turned back to look Hunter in the eyes. "I do. I think. Maybe. I'm not sure. I just lost the one that always looked out for me. More like a dad than a friend, but still a friend, if that makes any sense. Sometimes people disappear here with no warning."
