Paul had almost not gone either, due to the mood that had struck him after the disappearance notification of the man who had become like a father to him. There was a hole in his new life and parties were, in his experience, happy affairs not meant for melancholy. Hunger had driven him forward, though, as it so often did, both for the food and drink itself and for the new experiences. "It's good to have such friends on your side."
He listened curiously to the description of the place Hunter was from. Hearing about all of the different places people were from in Derleth fascinated him. "Which one are you from? I have never traveled between planes, only between planets. Until I came here, of course." He took a thoughtful sip of apple juice. "Though I'm not sure if it counts as traveling between material planes or not. There is still a lot I don't know."
Paul watched as the cardinal circled and came to a landing on his shoulder. He smiled, coming out from the cloak of sadness he had been under. "Hello, Flapjack." He slowly lifted his hand, hovering it near the bird to see if a pet would be accepted. "What a fine friend you must be."
