The phone still worked.
Julia thought carefully about the curious device in her pocket. It would not be included in her report to her Windy City clan members. Not yet. Two kindred, one Cam and one Anarch, both breaking Masquerade, in a space where they regularly communicated with mages, DSS agents and aliens?
She needed to learn more about the network before she would reveal its existence or merely the intelligence gleamed from it. Julia was not a stranger to blackmail, to gathering leverage, or even to outright lying, but it was far too soon to act and she had time. In her hands was a handwritten report for Father Leonard. Anything more advanced than a typewriter tended to break when Julia tried to use it, making the phone feel especially alien to her after not being able to handle one for more than a year.
It felt nice to have again. Even if it was limited. She couldn't remember the last time she even sent a text.
"Tough day at the office?"
She wasn't trying to hide in the shadows. She was Lasombra. She just sort of did.
Julia watched the church carefully across the street, waiting for Father Leonard to make an appearance. At least standing next to the blonde stranger, Benoit would not be able to hassle her about religion. Julia did not make any motion to move or give Steve his space during his emotional-spiritual crisis, instead pulling out a pack of cigarettes and going through the motions to light it up and smoke as she waited for her contact.
