Day 2
Melissa hadn't meant to end up in the middle of a brawl, but she wasn't exactly surprised considering they were in Pirate Land. She remembered what happened last time they were here back at the hotel. It had been just as rough and tumble, but they hadn't be wanted for piracy. Melissa had convinced Bruce that they didn't even look like the photos - it wasn't like either of them screamed pirate either - so they went to the tavern anyway.
The brawl wasn't even about them. Some guy had been accused of stealing someone else's treasure and then someone through out a disparaging remark about the other one's mother and fists started flying. The chaos was kind of impressive. Not everyone ran into the fray, but it was clear some other people were using the brawl for their own personal reason to attack someone else. Fists turned into swords and suddenly Melissa and Bruce decided it was a good time to leave.
Somewhere along the lines they were separated. Melissa was a big girl and she could find her way out of a personal war waging in a tavern. She was almost at the door when she had to reel back to avoid the man who flew at her and landed heavily on the side of the wall. He was clearly bleeding from a sword or knife wound and while it would have probably been smart to just not engaged, Melissa was a nurse and she just couldn't ignore it.
She crawled over to the man struggling to stand up again. Where they were, they were at least sheltered a little from the chaos and it gave Melissa the opportunity to think. "Hold still." She told him as she tried to pull up the shirt he was wearing. Apparently he was not so appreciative of this.
"Get yer mangey hands off me wench!"
Melissa was not a stranger to belligerent patients - work in the ER meant you came across all types - and so she didn't blink at his words. Instead, she looked up and him and gave him her best no-nonsense stare. "Do you want to die?"
The pirate laughed. "It's a mighty tall tale ye be giving me if ye think ye know the medicines, lass."
Without missing a beat, Melissa pointed to his chest and moved her hand around naming his various organs. Then she went on about what would happen if she didn't clean the wound and how he would die a very slow and painful death. When she finished, she added on "But what do I know? I'm just a woman."
The wheels inside the pirate's head was turning and he had enough self preservation to at least consider what she was saying was true. Ultimately he agreed to let her help him and he was glad that the brawl was loud enough that no one seemed to hear his yelp as she disinfected his wound with vodka and went to work.
