This has been fun, hasn’t it? Idyllic suburban life was usurped by an alien incursion with a 50-foot alligator overlord. Some fought back, some fell, and some became brainwashed by pods to do the bidding of the Lokian Empire and the Supreme Loki. But every Sci-Fi movie has to tie up loose ends and send the audience home with a sense of resolution, right?
Around day 5 of this week, a number of Dunwich’s residents snapped out the thrall of a life that was not their own. Then, those with powers and abilities began to see those restored. Bad news for the Lokian Empire! They counted on the submission of weak Earthlings, and specifically did not include a countermeasure against Derleth’s ragtag community coming together to mount a siege on the Lokis center of command: Town Hall.
CLEAR A PATH TO TOWN HALL - Not much involved in the guesswork here to know that the Lokis have been using Town Hall as their base. The Supreme Loki camps out in front of the building between kaiju-esque romps through town to find a quick snack, so there are windows when its defenses are lowered. The gelatinous cubes have thinned significantly due to being decimated by flames so they can’t multiply. The Lokian minions have also thinned out as the battles waged on. Still, plenty of each are posted in front of Town Hall, as well as some bigger bruiser minions. You don’t get to the bosses without a few mini-boss battles.
CORNER THE LOKIS - All three Lokis and a few of their inner circle (i.e. those who pledged fealty and/or submitted themselves to the pods) have retreated inwards and upwards in Town Hall. They can see the tides turning, especially as Derleth forces overtake the main entrance. A chase ensues until they’re seemingly caught on the roof with ray guns drawn. This seems like a losing proposition, doesn’t it? Maybe they’ll surrender...
OR MAYBE THE TOWN HALL DOME IS AN EMERGENCY ESCAPE SPACESHIP - It’s a corny Sci-Fi flick setting, what did you expect? Yeah, the dome of Town Hall activates. It lights up, and a loading dock ramp unfurls as the Lokis and their most loyal companions back themselves up into it with weapons drawn. The Lokian Empire isn’t done with this planet, and the Supreme Leader -- Dunwich’s best mayor ever -- vows to come back and claim all of Earth. The Supreme Loki is tractor-beamed up by the ship after it takes off, which has to break with some sort of physics and in-world continuity. That spaceship did NOT look like it could fit a 50-foot anything inside.
