"I'm fine," Steve said reflexively. He bit back a wince and pulled away as he realised that he was talking to the one person on the planet that had heard this crap from him before. Still, he'd had nearly a decade more practice at hiding now, so maybe he'd be able to get away with it.
Besides, for him cracked ribs and a deep cut weren't the biggest deals. Most of it would be healed within a day or two, and anything that ephemeral was, to Steve, far better than where he had been as a kid.
He took the packet from Bucky and tipped the contents into his new companion's mouth. To his relief the animal perked up and started to look more alert and cheerful. He directed a wry grin at Bucky, shaking his head,
"Saving me again, huh?" He asked lightly. "Shoulda guessed that was coming."
