Entry tags:character: hunter dale, character: natasha romanoff, location: hogwarts abandoned areas, thread: complete

Who: Hunter and Natasha
What: Talking and walking around some abandoned areas
Where: Hogwarts halls/abandoned areas
When: Saturday, Sept. 15, after lunch
Warnings: None.

After she finished eating, Natasha stood up the entrance at the Great Hall and waited for Hunter. She actually felt relieved to be able to talk to him again. While she couldn't completely lower her guard around him, he was one of the select few that seemed to understand her and that she enjoyed talking with.

Since arriving at Hogwarts, she hadn't really spent time talking to anyone. She was alone most of the time, so it was a repeat of her last school. She was at least able to explore a bit of the school, though she had more places to try to find. There were areas she hadn't been in yet and she still didn't know what the heck a 'room of requirement' was or where it was located. With her exploring, she was able to find a few places and clean them up. She did tell Hunter she would help him and if it meant getting help herself, all the better.

Hunter had picked over his meal, trying to eat enough so that Fawn wouldn't give him trouble. He was never a big eater, and with the lack of sleep since returning to school, he had lost a few pounds off of his already slight frame. Glancing over to the other end of the table, Hunter saw that his sister was busy talking with someone, and used the opportunity to slip away. What he had said to Natasha was true, if he asked Fawn to help her, Fawn would, but he did get the distinct impression that there wasn't soon going to be a close friendship between them.

"I hope I haven't kept you waiting," he said, as he rounded the door.

"You haven't," she replied. Glancing him over, she noticed the dark circles under his eyes and how he seemed frailer than before. She started walking with him out the door and down the hall. Since she was going to be showing him around, she was going to take the lead. She stayed at his side, though when they needed to make a turn she'd tap his arm or motion with her head and walk down that way.

When they were far enough from the Great Hall and had rounded one corner, she started to speak. "I take it the adjustment back to school hasn't been going well, has it?"

Natasha seemed to have a solid grasp on where she was and where she was going, and Hunter wondered just how much of her time had been spent roaming the school and avoiding her classmates. He had spent nearly the first two years of school doing just that, until Fawn had really started forcing him to be more social. Hunter looked around, before he answered, but saw only an empty hall.

"I'm not sleeping," he replied, reaching up to rub the bridge of his nose. It felt odd to speak of his relationship with his sister, but good. He still wasn't one hundred percent sure that he could trust Natasha, but any damage had already been done that day in the woods.

"We usually sleep in the same bed. This is a transition we have to make every year, but this year has been hard."

"I can imagine it being hard. I assume any adjusting will take longer than normal." She glanced his way and tapped his arm again, leading him down another corridor. "I've been watching the Hufflepuff table. Your sister isn't taking it as hard, is she?" Before he could object or ask, she quickly added, "She's more sociable. That's all I mean. You're quieter. I've been observing for my own reasons." Though the reason for her observation caused her more pain than she'd like to admit.

"Don't worry. After I show you a few places, maybe it can help you in some way. Students sneak from their dorms all the time, don't they?"

Hunter gave Natasha a half-smile. He knew exactly what she meant and couldn't take any offense to it. He had always had a harder time getting back into the routines of school. It was part of the reason he had always questioned whether Fawn needed him as much as he needed her. At least now, he knew that their love for each other was equal.

"Fawn will always draw people to her. She's just that kind of a person," he said, smiling softly. "I am solitary."

He followed her down the hall.

"I'm not much of a rule breaker. I suppose I'm at a disadvantage that way," he replied. "If someone was to see me in the halls after hours, they would probably assume I had some permission to be there. I suppose that will be to my advantage. The Slytherin in me is finally coming in useful."

"I've heard. She's much nicer than you. You're a dork." She smirked, chuckling to herself as she remembered a conversation. "There's nothing wrong with solidarity. It's what I know best. It leaves you bewildered though when someone manages to sneak around that nice little wall you've built up.

"You're only at a disadvantage if you let it control you. Break the rules and I'd say you'd be at an advantage." She couldn't help but smile at the mention of his Slytherin side. "Use any and all advantages you have. If it's to get what you want, then it's worth it in the end, isn't it?"

As they walked down, a small grove came into view. There were trees with many different flowers surrounded all around. She pointed over to the trees, got on her tiptoes, then whispered to him, "There's a ghost over there. The Flower Lady, though I found out her name is Sara. She went here and loved taking care of the plants, but something happened. I don't know what. Talking to her, even briefly, has been to my advantage. She doesn't disturb me when I'm alone and she tells me different things about the school."

"I suppose it is," he replied, smiling.

Hunter was more than willing to break the rules for Fawn. Although he wasn't a rule breaker, he didn't mind bending them, if he didn't see the point to them. He glanced up, seeing the faint shape of the ghost Natasha spoke of. She went here and loved taking care of plants. For a split second, Hunter couldn't help but think of Fawn, and wondered what it was the kept Sara anchored to the castle. He turned to Natasha, matching her lowered voice.

"It sees as though you've learned more about this castle in a month than I have in six years," he said, with a raised eyebrow. It was impressive, and a bit scary.

"There's still a lot left for me to learn about this place. That'll be fun for me to discover." Her lips curled up in a smirk. "I'm not social. I scare people off, like I'm sure I did to Etta. Aside from you, there was one other I talked to, but more often than not I'm left... confused by his presence." She also hadn't been able to talk to him since their last meeting and he hadn't seem to actively sought her out. She wondered if she scared him off as well.

Noticing the ghost, Natasha stopped Hunter and pointed at her. She held up a finger, letting him know she needed a minute, and stepped towards the flowers. "Sara? Are you there? I can see you, you can't hide."

A faint giggle filled the area as a soft wind surrounded Natasha. The ghost soon appeared in front of her. She floated at the same height as her, her hair long and straight, her face serene and peaceful for one that was an apparition.

"Sara, I'd like you to meet my friend, Hunter. He and his sister will be walking around here as well. You'll recognize them by their hair, like mine."

The ghost giggled as she turned to Hunter, then back at Natasha. "Are they foxes too?" Natasha's cheeks turned pink and she quickly shook her head.

"Oh, no. No, no, that's just my nickname."

"Will they pick flowers with me? And talk to me?"

"I think they will," Natasha answered, giving the ghost a small smile. She turned back to Hunter, motioning him to come closer. "You'll talk to and pick flowers with Sara, won't you?"

Hunter stood, still and quiet, as the two girls spoke. It sounded almost like music. He couldn't remember ever seeing a ghost that appeared so peaceful. He tended to avoid them, as they tended to be troublesome or at least irritable. He approached when beckoned, and spoke with a soft voice.

"I'd like to very much, if that's alright with you, Sara," he replied, coming up to stand at Natasha's side. "My sister loves plants and flowers, and I'm sure she's love to hear about the ones you have here."

He turned momentarily to Natasha, and looked back, blushing a bit.

"We're not foxes, but my sister's name is Fawn. My name is Hunter."

If she could beam, Sara's face would have. She appeared happier to learn that she could talk to another plant lover such as herself.

"I'm glad. Maybe she can help me take care of the plants here. The plants would like that too. I can talk to them now." She looked between the two and pointed, making sure to remember their names. "Hunter. And Foxy."

"Natasha!" the red-haired hissed. She hit her forehead with her hand. "I should never have mentioned that nickname. I- Why are you blushing?" It was a quick question directed at Hunter, but Sara didn't seem to notice. She giggled.

"A hunter, a deer, and a fox. I look forward to seeing you in my garden." With another giggle, the ghost disappeared.

Natasha let out a sigh as she ran her fingers through her hair. "That fox thing is really going to stick with me. Damn him. Still, as long as you talk with Sara, she doesn't mind if you stay around this corridor or any of the classrooms. I noticed most of them are dusty and have cobwebs growing. Come on." She started walking away and back on the path, to show him the one room where she mostly ventured to in the area.

Hunter immediately looked forward to telling Fawn about Sara, about her plants, and everything he had learned so far. Even on a short walk through the castle, he was already missing her. He followed contentedly beside Natasha, as she started down another corridor. He had felt he knew her decently well before, but seeing her flustered at the nickname… that had been very new. He hadn't expected to see her flustered, and expected it was nearly as rare on her as it was on him.

"So, your nickname, Foxy," he tested the waters, holding back the blush that threatened to return. "Is this from the same boy that leaves you so confused?"

Natasha was quiet for a few more steps. She wasn't sure if she should openly admit or deny it. It was probably apparent if she admitted or denied it, so she thought about turning it around.

"Would you be confused if Fawn gave you a nickname that complimented you?" Looking at Hunter, she wouldn't even know what nickname to give him. She wondered if it was because she lacked social skills, if it was a culture thing, or if it was simply because he was a hard person to name. She assumed the two formers were more correct.

Hunter couldn't help but notice that Natasha hadn't answered his question, but paid it no real mind. The relationships between girls and boys had never been of real interest to him. Truthfully, he had never understood the purpose, other than for the continuance of the species. Well, he hadn't understood it before this summer. He thought perhaps now he understood.

"I suppose I see what you mean," he replied. "I've never had a nickname, never really wanted one. I would let Fawn call me whatever her heart desired, but if she were to come out with something like Foxy, I suppose I would be a little bit..."

He searched for the right word, as the blush returned.

"Flustered."

She was glad she wasn't alone in that respect. It was an embarrassing sort of nickname, but she also liked it. She wondered if it was a strange reaction to it or normal. She wanted to know if her confusion and such was founded over some guy, but it was also humiliating to admit, so she phrased it differently.

"Exactly! Yes! Let me ask - if Fawn called you Foxy because of your hair or because you were 'her little fox,' is it strange for it to confuse you and make you happy at the same time?" Just remembering how he called her 'my little fox' made Natasha blush again.

Her cheeks were still pink as she came to an abandoned, yet cleaned-up classroom. While the other classrooms around were dusty and dirty, this room looked polished and pristine. The desks were pushed to the side and it looked like there was plenty of room inside.

"Here. This is one of the areas. I cleaned up the place when I found it. Aside from the ghost, it's usually quiet around here. It's a possible solution for you, but there are other areas."

Hunter's eyes widened slightly, as Natasha showed him the classroom, and told him of her efforts to clean it up. He stepped inside, slowly, as though his footsteps might break some spell and it would become a dusty mess again. He knelt at the edge of the space, at the center of the room, his fingers trailing over the stone floor. His eyes closed, picturing what it could be. The space was just big enough for... for a bed. Hunter felt a newly familiar heat swirl up inside him, and quickly stood up, clearing his throat and pushing the feeling down inside him.

"I've never really told anyone this, besides Fawn," he admitted, looking nervous. "I don't have many friends. Well, any really. And the other boys think there's something wrong with me. But I find it all confusing."

He couldn't help but remember back to everything that had happened over the past few months.

"The first time Fawn and I really kissed, it was the happiest I've ever been in my life. But it also felt like my brain would explode. I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Is it like that for you?"

It was a personal question, and Hunter knew Natasha might just turn it back on him, but he wanted so desperately to know if it was just him. Fawn seemed so at peace with it all, he sometimes wondered if there really was something wrong with him.

She watched him with curious eyes, wondering just what was going through his head. As soon as he started speaking, she perked up, a ghost of a smile on her lips as she listened.

"It's like that for me too." She bit her bottom lip and rocked back and forth on her heels. She hesitated, but at least a name was never asked. "When he kissed me, I felt something electric between us, like I could melt right then and there. I felt extremely happy too, like-" she clicked her tongue, trying to find the right words. "Like everything was perfect.

"Even if I didn't know what to do, my body did seem to crave certain things, like his touch. I'm sure my hormones take over when my brain shuts down. Does that happen to you as well?" She knew it was an extremely personal question, but she hoped her honesty would help and be met back with the same. It felt like a relief to have someone to talk it over with.

Hunter swallowed hard, as his brain tried to compartmentalize what it was he was hearing. Natasha was a pretty girl, a pretty red-headed girl, and although he trusted his brain to keep her and Fawn separate, he feared gaining some sort of strange Pavlovian response to her presence. After all, his body had become quite traitorous over the past few months.

"My brain never really shuts down," he said. "Maybe that's part of my problem. I may... want something, but my brain over thinks it all."

There had only been a few moments that his brain had whited out, all of which had so far occurred as he was reaching his peak. But he surely wasn't going to say that out loud.

"And it's all new to me. I never even looked at anyone before Fawn. I know there are boys who like girls, and boys who like other boys, and such. I never liked anyone that way."

"Over thinks it? How so?" she asked. She walked over to one of the desks and sat down on top of it. "Like it stops you and you analyze far too into things?"

She wasn't surprised by his admission. Rather, she was curious about it. "So what is it about Fawn that drew you towards hers? Was it because she's your twin or was it something else? Something deeper?" She had heard of people not really being attracted to others, but Hunter's case was rare and special. Even she was attracted to someone else at her old school, but it didn't end well.

Hunter leaned against an opposite desk, though his back stayed straight as an arrow. He pulled his wand and quickly made sure that the door was shut tight. He had already risked their safety that day in the woods, and had been lucky enough to find Natasha accepting and trustworthy. He wasn't going to be so foolish as to let his tongue slip and risk it all again.

"I suppose Fawn and I would have had to love each other, or hate each other immensely," he smiled, settling into the story he had never really told, but knew like the back of his hand. "There were no other children in the house and my father had us home schooled. We didn't even really play with other children, as he was always worried we would be kidnapped and held for ransom. I suppose it was a valid concern."

Hunter had always been surprised how much freedom they had at Hogwarts. Once they had turned thirteen, the private guards had been taken away, his father finally content with the school's own security.

"So it was just the two of us, filling our days. We knew every corner and crook of each room in that house, along with the secret security passages we weren't supposed to know about. We told each other stories. Slowly, the house became our castle and Fawn was my Princess. Don't get me wrong, I know her flaws. She's stubborn, and horribly fanciful, but she's also kind and generous. She's all the things that I'm not."

Hunter cleared his throat, becoming aware that he was getting carried away.

"It has only been this year that it changed somehow, and I don't know how. Our parents had always warned us off of sleeping in the same bed, or giving each other the innocent kisses that children give. I never understood why. And then one day, around the end of last year, I suddenly knew why. I didn't just love Fawn; I needed her. I yearned for her in a way that... well, not many people would understand."

Natasha listened, nodding every so often. She crossed her legs, putting her elbow on top of her knee and resting her chin on her hand. It really did sound like they lived a sheltered and privileged lifestyle, but given their father's job it was understandable. The more she learned about him, she thought the more she seemed to understand him, bit by bit.

"You do need her. It sounds like she balances you out. I wonder if that balance is what drew you to her." Before he could say anything, she waved her hand and gave a small smile. "It's not a bad thing. It's strange, but as you talked, I could tell you really and truly care for her. Even that day in the forest, you seemed much different from the other times I talked to you. It's like she brings out another you.

"When I mentioned you two, I heard you two are 'close. It's a twin thing. You only hang around her.' That sort of thing. I think I can understand why now though. If I yearned for someone like that and if they brought out another me, I think I'd want to be close to them as well."

Just thinking that brought on another hurtful pang to her. She sat up straight, shrugging it off. She had to tell herself that feeling was all in her head.

"It's good we're... friends." Damn that word was still foreign to her. "It will dispel those 'close' rumors and the perceptions people have. It should be beneficial to your relationship."

Fawn really did bring out another part of Hunter, one that he kept hidden away from the rest of the world. He was quite sure that the rest of the school would laugh their heads off at the idea that he would tell fairy stories, while staring up at the stars, or that he was excellent at skipping rocks over the lake. He supposed anything other than reading and the damn violin would be a surprise to them.

Hunter couldn't help but laugh at Natasha's assertion.

"Oh, I don't know," he replied. "I thought that for a moment as well; that being seen with a girl might dispel some of the rumors about me. I'm afraid that if anything, if may just start some about you."

"Like what?" she asked. She thought as long as the other Russian students in the school didn't recognize her, any rumor that people could come up with would be much better than anything they could say. "It might be fun to hear what people come up with about me. Unless a certain 7th year says a few things..." and she was sure he wouldn't, "then any rumors said would be laughable."

"Oh, who knows?" Hunter said, dramatically. "Perhaps you're some young looking spy, who has been planted at the school to try and seduce State secrets out of strange, stuck up Hunter Dale. This school could come up with almost anything, and they would likely believe it, before they would believe that I have a girlfriend."

Although he didn't let the smile leave his face, Hunter's stomach soured slightly. He had always had a strong feeling about the identity of Natasha's 'friend', but now he was quite sure. He kept his mouth shut, not wanting his personal distaste to distract from a perfectly good conversation. It did bring up a question in his mind, which he weighed for a moment before giving voice to.

"I... if you don't want to answer, please don't but... have you ever been with a boy?"

Hunter hoped that he didn't have to clarify what he meant.

"I believe I'd be interested in that spy secret if only I could be told how to become a spy." She had to wonder about him and how he presented himself if the school would believe that over any dating sort of secret. She looked up and tapped her chin. "Would it actually be believable that I could seduce you if they won't believe a girlfriend secret?"

She turned red at the next question. She glanced at him, then away as she tried to find her voice. "Been with? I- well- I'm sure you've gotten farther than I have." Not unless what the two were doing in the forest was as far as they've been, then she'd be the same as him.

So the answer was no. Hunter had to admit he was a bit surprised. From what he saw and heard everyday, it had appeared to him as though every other witch or wizard was naturally sex-crazed. That, and Natasha was admittedly a very pretty girl.

"Well, I did say try to seduce me," Hunter corrected her. "And it wouldn't be the first time. Last year a few of the older boys paid off some Gryffindor girl to try and get me to sleep with her. She sat right in my lap; it was repulsive. I stood up, she fell on the floor, and the name calling just got worse after that."

It was then that Hunter had decided he must have something wrong with him, but had quickly made peace with it. Sometimes he wished that he had never discovered that secret part of him that longed for Fawn physically. It was so confusing.

"Do you understand it at all?" he asked, trying to ground his feet to the floor to keep from pacing. "Sex, I mean. Fawn and I, well, we haven't done much. Part of me wants her desperately, but another part of me worries I'll hurt her. I have no idea what it's like for a girl; I barely know what it's like for me! She's just so innocent."

So innocent that she hadn't even know that a man ejaculated at orgasm. Hunter treasured Fawn's innocence, and yet a new, slowly growing part of him, wanted to end that same innocence. It all scared him.
