Prompt/challenge you're answering: * Serin and Nill: there's no need to complicate / our time is short / this is our fate, I'm yours
She found the burnt-out church with ease, padding between huge toppled blocks of stone, finding the unerring path that had been laid, the soft sweet lingering scent of girl mixed with heady wet feathers and the ice-sterile touch of science.
Long dark hair slipped like silk over her shoulders. She was still heavy with blood, her blade crooning softly in her hand as shadows clung and then shredded like clotted blood. Not a pleasant thought, but unpleasantness seemed to be the order of the day; there were older corpses festooning the pews, markers she’d left to warn other demons away.
“Nill.” She said to the empty walls, hearing her voice echo, and there was a soft scuffle before the girl darted into view.
Her long blonde hair was loosely braided and she was as hale as Serin could provide for, her head cocked up with wide, luminous blue eyes fixed on the demoness. No words, but she lifted a hand and smiled, quizzically hopeful, and Serin leapt down and extended a hand.
“I’ve heard a rumor.” She said, voice low and exquisitely tight with control. Nill made her strange; she’d never been a savior before, and it was strange new ground to tread. “On the wind—we’re heading for asphalt.” She nodded up, and Nill smiled again, tentatively bright, and closed her fingers around Serin’s.
It was nearly midnight, a dark cloud-shrouded sky studded with tiny lightning bright points of stars, but Serin still drew the cloak of shadows protectively—possessively—around Nill’s shoulders, draping her in velvet soft darkness to keep anyone else’s eyes from her.
