Prompt/challenge you're answering: How about it, Scar, did you enjoy Sasarai's party?
Author's comment: Scar in Harmonia! XD ...maybe this is the same universe as my Sarah & Kimblee fics.
"I realize my hospitality is unexpectedly modest, Sir Scar, but I hope you'll nevertheless accept and enjoy it."
It would be an act of pure foolishness for the Ishvalan warrior-priest to do otherwise. Ever since his arrival in Crystal Valley from the borderlands that were home to his people, Bishop Sasarai had been nothing but kind and diplomatic towards him, a man visibly marked by the fires of war, a Third Class Citizen, a "heretic." If there was any bishop in all Harmonia inclined to aid Scar's people, this was he. And, better still, if there was any single cleric, short of Hikusaak himself, capable of freeing his people, Sasarai was also that man. To be respectful of the bishop and his staff and allow Sasarai to awkwardly entertain him a bit was a small price to pay.
"Your hospitality is more than enough for me, Sasarai." Perhaps it was unwise to address the young man without any titles, but a direct approach best suited both Scar and his culture. He was prepared to play nice for what he wanted- not to grovel. "I'm used to so much less."
Never one to regard his rank as particularly important (possibly because it had been all but guaranteed since birth), Sasarai barely noticed Scar's plain address. "Then mayhap the little party I'm throwing on your behalf tonight will seem splendid after all!" The possibility all but brought stars to the bishop's shining eyes.
"A party...?" Scar hesitated.
"Yes," Sasarai clasped his guest's big hands in a rather forward gesture, "It's a small affair- almost miniature by Crystal Valley standards- but I hope it will please you nevertheless. I've invited up a couple of my friends with clout, as well as my personal staff and their families. There'll be a live band- just a four-piece group really- and dancing, and if you're up to it, a chance to speak about your people and your cause."
There was a worrisome element of naïveté involved in all this, but with Sasarai, bishop of Crystal Valley and all Central Harmonia, all but batting his girlishly long eyelashes at him, it was difficult to refuse. "Tonight, hmm?" Scar did his best to look pleased by this development, despite his reservations. "I will look forward to it. ...Though I don't know if I have anything appropriate to wear."
"I've also taken the liberty of procuring an outfit for you," Sasarai beamed.
Scar imagined it was going to be a very long, albeit well-meaning, night.
