Awkward. (Fullmetal Alchemist, Kimblee/Winry) Title: Awkward. Author:catdevigri Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist Pairing/characters: Kimblee->Winry, Ed/Winry Rating: PG-13 Warnings: Kimblee being creepy. Word count: 413 Prompt/challenge you're answering: Winry and Kimblee, this conversation never happened
"I just met the Fullmetal Alchemist and his brother at Fort Briggs. I've heard that not only are you his mechanic, but that the three of you are childhood friends," Kimblee probed casually.
"That's true. We grew up together."
"So you're almost like their sister."
"Heh heh, well," she giggled, coloring cutely, "I'm glad it's not quite like that."
"Hmm," Kimblee nodded, "It's as I thought then."
That was even more embarrassing to Winry. ...And on further thought, a little creepy. Some grown man she had never met was speculating on her personal relationship with Ed and deciding it must be romantic (or more). Now he was smiling at her pleasantly like it was no big deal. Winry wished she could see the faces of Major Miles and the other soldier up front. They weren't saying anything, but she was certain they could hear some of this bizarre exchange. They couldn't be as unusual as Mr. Kimblee, could they? They must think this was a strange conversation.
"I imagine you've been missing one another," Kimblee spoke up again. "Even if he dropped by just before he left, it must have taken Fullmetal a decent time to march all the way up to Briggs. It wasn't a quick jaunt for me either, even with a full escort."
There were no direct questions posed, so Winry didn't answer. What was he getting at here?
"Please don't hold back on my behalf in your greeting to him." Kimblee's eyes were closed now. His gloved hands were folded, perched on one knee (his legs were crossed). He twitched his fingers, even as he kept them together and, of course, he kept on smiling.
Winry was sure he was imagining something. ...And the only thing she thought that something might be was... She grimaced; he couldn't see her expression. The unintroduced man up front snorted, so he probably did see.
Kimblee opened his eyes. Winry couldn't decide if his look was created more out of puzzlement or being embarrassed. "I beg your pardon, Miss Rockbell. It isn't polite of me to pry into your personal relationship."
"Sure..." she answered. There didn't seem to be any reasonable alternatives to agreeing.
"Then let's just pretend that this conversation never happened," he concluded.
Winry replied with a non-committal noise of acknowledgment. It didn't matter whether he really knew the truth now. He'd already imagined Ed and her having sex. ...There was no way she could eve let Ed know about this.
