Lengthy author's comments: So, my story is as such- At the beginning of the month I started my fic for my Kimblee/Machi prompt in the week 2 set, but it kept on growing, so I wasn't able to post it (and it's still not finished). Now, when I read this prompt, at first I planned on starting some completely unrelated Suikoden III/FMA crossover fic...but then I decided I didn't have any especially good idea for Yun and Kimblee in that context. However, adding Yun into the context of my post Apollo Justice FMA/AA crossover worked out nicely. So. This story will be related to the other one (and might make more sense once it's finished/posted).
Thank you for bearing with me. ^^;
"Hey! You're awake!"
Kimblee opened his eyes wider. What was this now? A dark-haired girl- she looked somewhat Asian, although her round face was marked by a pair of saucer-plate eyes- looked down over him. "See?" she chirped, "I told you we didn't need to take him to the Hotti Clinic."
"I trusted your judgment the entire time, Yun," a similarly dressed woman, clad in an unusual purple outfit agreed cheerfully.
"This is foolishness!" Machi huffed. Kimblee began to smile at the sound of his voice, erupting into a full-fledged grin as the blond musician entered his field of vision. "Kimblee?" he ventured (it was cute, seeing that he actually cared), "You are okay? I was afraid you were really hurt. I tell these women you need hospital when you not waking up, but they say no."
"Machi," Kimblee reached out and the young man grasped his hand (most likely without thinking), "Thank you for thinking of my well being."
"I do not want you to die, Kimblee," his blue eyes appeared practically child-like as they welled up with tears. "Enough people around me die. I not know how to handle it."
"I am near indestructible," Kimblee squeezed his hand. "It doesn't matter what kind of scrapes I get into- it's going to take something much bigger and flashier to actually kill me."
"Idiot," Machi blushed and jerked his hand away, growing awareness of how he had been acting toward his wounded colleague. When he said, "idiot," it was addressed nearly as much to himself as it was to Kimblee.
"Phew! Well, now that we know you're gonna make it, mister, I need to break for a snack," the flashy-looking woman breathed a sigh of relief. "C'mon, Machi! Let's go pick up some burgers! You can tell me what your pal likes on his."
"W-wait! Maya, I will stay here!" Machi pled, but his flailing did nothing to deter her and his squeaky cries fell on deaf (or at least single-minded as far as food was concerned) ears. There was no chance of the Kurain woman letting him go once she had set her mind on his being her burger-run buddy.
"Hee hee," Yun giggled, covering her glimmering teeth with one dainty hand, "Nothing can get Mystic Maya down for long."
"Excuse me," Kimblee attempted to focus his still slightly muddled thoughts to be able to gather some information, "You hail from Kurain, do you not?"
"Ah! You know Kurain!" Yun squealed happily, "Have you heard good things?"
"For the most part," he answered honestly. "It sounds like a fascinating place."
"My name is Yun Kinan-Fey. Mystic Maya- the woman with me- she's the leader of our village- she's been working hard to give Kurain back its good name after it was tarnished a long time ago in a legal case. She's my second cousin." Yun knelt down and picked a first aid kit up off the floor.
Kimblee took a moment to study the barebones bed he was lying upon. The pillow under his head was rather flat. He sat up, but found the room housing them no less familiar for doing so.
"Really though," Yun mused, dabbing rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball, "You seem like a particularly interesting person yourself, Mr. Kimblee."
"My, um, name. You learned it from Machi?"
"Yeah," Yun took his arm- his sleeves were still rolled up almost to the elbows as they had been before. "He was really upset about you. Could you tell? Did you notice how his cheeks were red from crying?"
Kimblee winced, recoiling slightly from the cold sting as she applied the cleansing solution to his arm. "Really? I didn't realize he'd been crying." It was surprising to think that someone who tried to treat him as coldly as Machi did would cry over his injuries. 'I don't feel I had quite a long enough opportunity to sort out the details, although I could see that he was somewhat frazzled by the events that had transpired."
"Try and hold still now," Yun struggled to remove the backing from a bandaid and apply it to a newly disinfected cut on his arm without accidentally catching its sticky side on anything else. "There. Now onto the next one."
"If that stuff didn't sting quite so much I'd think I'd died and gone to- admittedly a low rent version of- heaven," he engaged in some harmless flirting. Yun was clearly underage, but if he had no serious designs on her, what did it matter? "Then again, I suppose managing to stay alive if more like heaven for me."
"It's good to appreciate life," Yun agreed, wiping a particularly rough scuff on his left cheek. "Now, Mr. Kimblee, don't be such a baby," she tsked as he drew back and let out a string of fussy "oww"s.
"A-ah, so, about Machi then- and what happened. Did you and Mystic Maya just happen to be in the area?"
"Mmm, we were on our way back to the train station after dropping off Pearl to stay with Mr. Wright- do you know him? Of him? Mystic Maya was telling me how she was going to take me to eat at a place called In-N-Out Burger before we went home when we heard an explosion. And Mystic Maya's never been the sort to avoid trouble- she always runs straight toward it. ...Because she, you know, really cares about people," Yun amended after a moment, thinking it sounded too much like her admired teacher was merely brash and reckless. "She saw Machi, they recognized each other, and he asked for help getting you out of there without anyone noticing. Are you in some sort of trouble? Because he was conflicted - scared that we couldn't help you, but very insistent that we not take you anywhere the police would show up."
"I'm...Not always on the right side of the law," Kimblee admitted.
"You're lucky then. Machi doesn't seem to mind about all that, even though he's been in trouble before. He said it himself- he couldn't bear to lose another person he loves."
"Loves?" Kimblee repeated in a rush of passion. Yun blushed as he grabbed her hand, starring straight at her as he looked for confirmation. There was a fire within this man that she could understand the appeal of (the father Yun had never known- had there been a portion of this in him too?).
"I remember perfectly," she answered, "It was just before you woke up. I couldn't possibly forget something so touching so fast."
"Love..."
"Hee hee," her girlish giggles burst out again, their strength doubled, "You look so shocked, Mr. Kimblee! Maybe you really have died and gone to heaven!"
