Prompt/challenge you're answering: Sasarai and Sarah both have scars
Author's comments: A Sarah lives! AU. Possibly a starting point for a longer story of this nature. I've fooled around with the idea of Sarah surviving and ending up back in Harmonia before and I probably will again. Just maybe it will be coherent and interesting for once.
"You've grown accustomed to your pretty new cage, haven't you, Sarah?" Sasarai remarked wryly. The quarters he had procured for her faced out onto one of his favorite sections of the Temple's extensive gardens. The wisteria was in full bloom.
Sarah rolled her eyes. Instead of coming around and knocking on her door, the bishop had chosen to drop by her open window. A pot of violet sat just inside the curtains. Sasarai leaned in and sniffed them, taking in the modest decor. He had provided for her to furnish her quarters (or perhaps he was more on the mark when he spoke honestly and called them her "cage") however she liked. She favored simple things, purples and whites. He was happy she had taken him up on his offer and hadn't just gone with whatever default furnishings his subordinates dug up for her.
"Whatever's the matter? Do you have something to say to me? Have I insulted you with my imprudence?" Sasarai himself was not sure whether he meant this sincerely or if he wanted to tease her.
"You enjoy being a bit difficult, don't you?" In some ways, Luc must have enjoyed it as well- at least as far as Lady Leknaat was concerned. He had always made a much bigger show of his troubles in front of her than in any other situation. "You know it pains me somewhat even to see you."
"Because we share one face." Sasarai knew what she was speaking about. "Sometimes to see it pains me now as well. Of course," he smiled again, "You probably don't believe that. Or that it hurts me sometimes to see you too."
"Because you saved me, but you couldn't save him?"
"Ah. So it's true. We understand one another quite well. We're both bound up in the same chain of memory." It was funny and sad at the same time. They might have different sorts of scars, but they came from the same source. And Sasarai thought, although Sarah would definitely disagree, that perhaps, for that reason, they might be the ones best appointed to heal one another.
