Dogs and Demons
The stone floor felt icy where his skin touched it, fever burning through him as his abused body was forced to accept yet another demon. His throat was raw from screaming and muscle spasms still shivered through him at random, even though it'd been hours since Hojo had tossed him back in his cell. The scientist was always sadistically pleased when Vincent survived to be available for future torture, but tended to lose interest after the screaming stopped.
This new demon was worse than the others, hands down. Not as strong as Chaos, thank all the gods, but fiercer, meaner.
It said something when a demon was bad enough that the rest of his... residents... were forced to help subdue it. The Galian Beast had only a rudimentary intelligence, but even it understood that its continued existence depended on keeping Vincent alive, and in the long, dark hours between Hojo's visits, he'd even come to think of it as an ally. Hellmasker and Death Gigas could be loud and rowdy, especially when they started bouncing off each other, but generally wanted to kill other things, not Vincent. Of course, he'd had to subdue all three of them through sheer force of will before they'd listened to him, but they seemed to accept his lead now.
Chaos was... patient. And very strong. Vincent suspected that the winged demon hadn't seriously fought for control so much as challenged him to measure his strength. And apparently it needed Vincent alive.
This new demon though was almost self-destructively violent, fighting against Vincent's flesh as soon as it was forced in, making muscles and bones burn with poison and hate even as that creeping death affected it in turn. It wasn't challenging Vincent for control, it wanted him dead. It had ended finally in a mental dogpile; Vincent and all his demons holding the snapping, snarling dog demon immobile through sheer force of numbers.
"Release me."
The tone was barely civil, still with an undertone of violence, and it snapped Vincent out of his exhausted haze. 'Will you stop trying to kill us?' he asked wearily, even though death was looking more appealing the longer he spent under Hojo's tender mercies.
"I am no human's slave!" came the coldly raging reply, before it seemed to check itself, going quieter if not less vehement. "Release me from your flesh, now!"
Oh. It wanted to be free of Vincent himself, not just the mental restraints. "I would if I could," he muttered tiredly, shivering slightly as the fever abated.
The demon went quiet, and Vincent felt the itch in the back of his mind that meant the demons were active among themselves. If it spared him having to gab on about everything, he wasn't going to complain.
"So, you are a captive as much as we."
On the verge of sleep, Vincent nodded. "Mm."
"...I am Lord Sesshoumaru."
Oh great, he hated dealing with aristocrats almost as much as he hated dealing with pompous high-ranked beaurocrats. "Vincent Valentine."
That seemed to be demon code-speak for a truce, and Vincent felt his other demons draw back from Sesshoumaru.
The last thing he felt before completely dropping into sleep was his prosthetic arm twitching and Sesshoumaru saying something about the gods having a sick sense of humour.
