Inbetween Moments (Chrono Trigger) Title: Inbetween Moments Author/Artist:kunenk Fandom: Chrono Trigger Pairing/characters: Crono, Lucca, Frog Rating: G Warnings: …none! Unless 'what are you doing' counts, but I'm going to say no. Prompt/challenge you're answering: Everyone sees Crono one way, but Lucca knows Crono’s true face.
Frog didn't have a problem with these two strangers. Or tried not to, at least; he was, without a doubt, competent enough to take on the Mystics lurking in the cathedral on his own (and possibly more quietly, though he would admit that being in the company of 'Mystics in human guise' had been something of a boon), and they hadn't explained why they were here to aid the Queen, but they had said that they intended to help her. He had no reason to doubt them- the situation in the cathedral seemed as though it would have been a far too elaborate exercise to execute simply in order to trap him, at least, and their surprise at seeing him had been genuine. Having companions was also a bonus; he could carry a number of tonics on his own, but put together the three of them could help one another, particularly when a Gargoyle or a Hench dealt a blow that stunned one of the others for a period.
He would have preferred them to be a little quieter, though. They were, after all, in enemy territory, and Gargoyles had sharp hearing and claws, and Frog preferred not to walk into ambushes.
He glanced back at them, meaning to ask them to be quiet, but Lucca was talking, and Crono was trying to ignore her.
“-never actually said how you picked her up,” Lucca said.
Crono apparently found the corridor ahead of them more interesting than the conversation. If it was a hint to stop talking, Lucca wasn’t picking up on it- or was deliberately ignoring it, which seemed more likely given Crono’s somewhat pained expression.
“She seemed pretty nice. I can see why you’d want to,” she said, tucking her hands into her pockets and grinning.
Crono did look at her at that, eyebrows drawn together. Frog cleared his throat, but Crono got in first, saying, “You think that because she was enthusiastic about the Telepod.”
Lucca pursed her lips. “Well, I have to admit, that was nice,” she admitted, and folded her arms. “But hey, she was with you, and you weren’t exactly being the highlight of the festival. What happened?”
Frog blinked, and raised one hand to check his ear. He would’ve expected to hear of a festival, if anyone had been ready to hold one in this time of trouble.
“I wasn’t supposed to be,” Crono said. He looked away, and scratched behind one ear. “It wasn’t the best first impression, that’s all.”
“Going to be hard if you don’t talk to her,” Lucca said, and slapped him on the shoulder. “But first things first!”
“And perhaps some silence,” Frog suggested, and walked on.
