After hibernating from a long, long string of holiday shifts, Harper needed a refresher practice course in making friends with her inner beast. She paid a visit to Christian, challenged herself a little, and then decided to call it a night on a high note. Slowly, she was beginning to have a little more control--well, maybe control was the wrong word, she was beginning to COOPERATE a little bit better with the leopard inside, making progress she wouldn't have thought possible a few months before. It felt as if she was finally turning a corner, learning to hit her stride again for the first time since Sam had died. She was moving forward instead of running in place. It felt great.
After their lesson was over, she decided to do something nice for Christian. She had packed all the necessary ingredients for some double chocolate cupcakes, and once the lesson was over, she commandeered his kitchen to make some sweet snacks. Christian had long since left to go about his business outside the apartment. While the cupcakes were baking (and they smelled heavenly--she was totally stealing one before she left), she watched some television, and then when her cell phone timer vibrated to let her know they were ready, she went back in the kitchen to set about decorating. She was far from an expert cake decorator. She was more the "slap some frosting on and throw some sprinkles at it" kind of girl, but they didn't look half bad. She got so caught up in her baking adventure that she didn't notice that someone had joined her in the kitchen.
She finished up the last of the cupcakes and picked up the platter to go put them on the table. When she turned around, she almost dropped the entire thing, gasping and nearly jumping out of her skin at the sight of a strange young man standing in the kitchen with her. "Shit! Where did you come from?" she exclaimed. A quick check of her operational senses told her a few things: he smelled like a fellow leopard, he didn't look dangerous, and since this was Christian's house, she assumed that he was there because Christian wanted him to be, which meant he couldn't be a threat. "Sorry," she said, letting out a deep breath after regaining her composure, setting the cupcakes down on the table. "I didn't know anyone was in here so you scared me a little. I'm easy to sneak up on." Once her hands were free, she offered one to him. "My name is Harper."
