Was it too much to ask to have a nice, uneventful night at work? Really? She swore as the bottles fell to the floor and smashed. Luckily she wasn't hurt, but Wayland was going to be when she was done with him. There was fire in her eyes as she turned to rage at the older man, but she stopped before anything could even pass her lips. The way he just stood there like some sort of statue took everything she was thinking and made it dissipate.
With eyes wide, she looked at the man she'd known for awhile now, to the mutants, to Remy. How had this turned upside down so quickly? The two bouncers descended without hesitation, as did some of the regulars who felt the need to stay and defend what they thought of as theirs. In the confusion, Rogue felt herself being ushered roughly aside. "Hey!" She yelled at whoever had just had their hands around her waist. "I can take care of myself."
Even with the madness around him, the purple mutant sat calmly in his seat, drinking his drink. He looked at Remy with polite confusion. "Are you a person who tolerates the abuse of women, because I am not. That gentleman was not behaving as is socially acceptable toward the young lady and felt it was appropriate to act in accordance."
"I'mma show you how socially unacceptable I can be!" Rogue yelled over the shouts and clamor. "Let him be!"
Wayland crumpled to the floor, the knife clattering down beside him. His eyes regained some of their focus and his lips moved, but no words could be made out. Rogue dropped to the floor beside him, all of her attention now on him. She took one of his hands in both of hers. "Wayland..." He tried to speak but blood bubbled from deep in his throat.
Eyes still on Remy, the purple mutant finally set his drink aside and rose. "You have rather curious eyes, my friend. Would I be correct in assuming that you and I are more alike than mere appearance would proclaim?" Behind him, one of his men tossed a bar patron over the counter, yet he did not flinch. In fact, her titled his head curiously, as though looking at something new and interesting. "Are you not tired of trying to fit in? Tired of trying to pretend you are less than you are?"
