June was super excited to go shopping with Paige for the first few days after the idea had been thrown out. Once the idea of a shopping trip wore off and the realization of what they'd be shopping for sunk in she was almost dreading it. There was a reason why she didn't have a bathing suit, a reason why she wore a long sleeved shirt with her jeans and boots even with the weather warming up. Only Doctor McCoy and Kitty knew about her burns and scars and the thought of revealing them to someone else, even someone she liked as much as Paige, made her feel rather vulnerable. So when she came back from her last class, instead of heading to the kitchen where she was supposed to, June went straight for her room and shut herself in her closet.
Warren, on the other hand, walked into the kitchen with shopping being the last thing on his mind. Ever since the meeting he'd been hard at work with the security systems and running as many extra tests as he could. This was a responsibility he'd taken on himself and he'd be damned if he let anyone else get hurt on his watch. Still, a man had to take a break once in awhile and get something to eat. He could wait for dinner at six and eat with everyone else, but then socializing would be involved and more time would be taken. He needed to stay on top of this, even if it cost him a little sleep. He was mid-yawn when he walked into the kitchen and found Paige there.
"Hey," he greeted in return, hating that she would see the bags under his eyes. Warren usually prided himself at looking his best at all times, even when as exhausted as he was. Today he'd just passed the point of not caring. "Shopping, huh? I wish I could, but..." He trailed off as another yawn attacked him. At this rate he'd be falling asleep at the computer. He scrubbed his hands over his face before turning weary eyes back to Paige. "How do you and Kitty do it? I know a lot about computers, not enough to rival either of you in any fashion, but enough." He shook his head. "I just keep going over and over things and I can't help the feeling that there is some huge gaping hole somewhere that I should see and just don't." He closed his eyes now and all he could see was programming codes. Maybe getting out wouldn't be such a bad idea.
"Shopping," he repeated after a minute. "The mall here does have those pretzels that I like." No one would deny him a small break, right? Plus, the draw of spending more time with Paige was not an easy one to resist, hard as he may try. "I'd like to get to know June better," he said as a cover. "Yeah, I think I'd like to come if she's all right with it." He looked around then glanced at Paige's bag. "Is she supposed to be meeting you here? I think I saw her heading up to the dorms."
