Everything that had been revealed during the meeting was swirling around in Ororo's brain while the others packed up and began to head out. There was a lot to do and the next few weeks were going to be very busy for all of them if X-23's intel was truly worth as much as it appeared to be. So lost in her own processing was she that it took her a minute to realize Scott was staying behind. No doubt he wanted a more private word with her on what the next course of action would be; he was never one to wait a second longer than necessary. She was about to speak when Scott beat her to it, and his words had her stunned into silence.
Thin white brows first rose in shock, then furrowed as she quickly recovered. "Excuse me?" It was something she would have maybe expected from Logan, even Rogue at this point. But from Scott? "I'm not sure which trick you're referring to, Scott. The one where I've helped keep this place in order for the past seven years? The one where I've been helping mutants with returning powers every day who'd almost rather die than have to deal with what they're dealing with now?" She didn't appreciate his accusation and it was especially hurtful coming from someone she'd always thought of as a brother. As far as Kitty went, that just had her baffled. "What are you talking about? Where is all of this coming from?"
The way he spoke to her then, almost like a parent pandering to a child, sparked clear irritation in her eyes. The air in the room charged slightly, enough for Scott to feel it, and Ororo breathed in and out, counting her breaths to try and calm herself down. "With all due respect, Scott, I don't have to answer to you, or to anyone else anymore. Charles left me in charge because he knew I could handle it. You think it always went smoothly when he was in charge? You know as well as I do that it didn't."
