"We love you, too," Warren admitted. "Everything will work out the way it's meant to, right? Isn't that what you're always saying to me?" Though he could understand that want to be taken seriously. It was something Warren struggled with himself when he was younger, wanting his father to recognize him as an adult and not just the son that would never be good enough. The situations weren't exactly the same but he could certainly empathize. "Your time will come, Kitty. Don't worry about it."
Her comment took Warren by surprise and he looked at Paige in time to see her face color. Had his thoughts really been that transparent? He'd never even brought Paige up in conversation with Kitty before. How could she possibly know anything? And now Paige was obviously embarrassed. He shook his head at Kitty as she walked out the door, sighing quietly. "Always trying to play matchmaker, that one. Maybe when she gets a boyfriend that will end." Though he seriously doubted it.
"I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it. I mean, I'm too old for you anyway, right?" His laughter was quiet. Really, he just wanted to spare Paige the embarrassment.
"Oh, right." he nodded vigorously, brows coming together in mock seriousness. "I have to get back to work as well. Lots of things to do before the business day ends." To add weight to his words, Warren reached for his computer and swiveled it to face him. He hit a key on the keypad to prepare himself for work, but looked up slightly and over at Paige before he did anything else. "I'm glad you're still here, Paige. Seems like almost everyone else has moved on. But I'm glad you're still here." Let her take that any way she wanted.
