"I just don't want you to think...I would never do that to you. Ever." Paige meant way too much to Kitty and she firmly believed in the mantra of hos before bros. Even if she wasn't fond of thinking of herself as a ho. "I have too much to worry about right now to add a man to that list anyway," she added after a moment. With a nervous smile, she looked between her two friends and admitted, "I asked Ro to consider me for her second since Hank left for awhile and Sean went back to Ireland. She still hasn't given me an answer, but if that happens, add on top of that everything else, I'm okay with being single." At least that was what she told herself. "It's not that they're all gay or blind...they're also students. Or old enough to be my grandfather. Or no longer here and answering their cell phones." Realizing she'd said the last part out loud, Kitty gave an awkward little laugh and tried to move on. "You're sweet, baby girl. You're just not my type."
She was excited to have Paige on board with the designing process and logo creation. "Just give me a price," she said seriously. "You do amazing work and deserve to be payed for it. And I won't take no for an answer." It was going to be a lot of fun working closely with Paige. They didn't have many opportunities to do that. Shopping was something she could take or leave but at the moment, Kitty was truly looking forward to it. "I know you've got finals and stuff coming up but it won't be for a couple of weeks yet that we can really start looking for what we need. So hopefully you won't get too overwhelmed with things. If you do, you promise to let me know?"
Warren spoke up before she had the chance to and Kitty looked sheepishly at Paige. "I haven't said anything to anyone besides Ororo. Well, until Warren asked me why I wanted to own my own studio. June's a ward of the school right now, we're basically like a foster home for her until she ages out of the system. It was her idea, actually." She could still remember the night June had come in after having woken up from a nightmare about her parents coming back. It was then that she learned just how deep the abuse had gone. "She's so scared of her father coming back, and as things stand now he could take her if he wanted her. I don't want that to ever be an issue. I love that little girl more than I ever knew was possible to love someone, and I want to do everything in my power to protect her. So a few days after we talked, I started seriously looking into what it would take to adopt her." She took one of Paige's hands in her own. "I didn't want too many people to know because I didn't want June to find out. I don't want her to get her hopes up and then have me be denied."
There was so much to think about and even more to do. But now that Paige knew her plan, Kitty's shoulders felt a little less burdened. With her free hand, she reached for Warren's hand so they were all linked in a chain with kitty in the middle. "Now that I have you guys in the know and with me, I can't help but feel like it will all work out in the end." She squeezed their hands before letting them go.
Glancing at the clock, she gave a half-hearted smile. The day was more than half over already and she still had things to do. Things that required her doing something other than sitting around in an excited stupor and chatting the afternoon away. "I should probably get to grading some homework before the high wears off and I crash fr the day."
