"Yeah, but you also don't need them walls with me. And you know that." Something was wrong with her and she wasn't letting him in, that worried him a little. "You know I'm not gonna judge ya, the last person that ever would." He scooted up, sitting right by her side and looked at her. She might not see it, but she still held such an innocence and goodness in her that he'd never seen in anyone else. But yet, her eyes told stories that weren't her own, held secrets that she shouldn't know.
He smirked and shook his head. "Ya don't know what I'd give to take a just a couple seconds of a stroll through that head of yers right now." That was where she was wrong, he didn't see her as a kid. No, during their time apart, she had flourished and matured into a beautiful, capable woman. He was glad he hadn't watched the transformation because it'd make him feel even dirtier about the thoughts he'd been thinking. Damn was he glad she couldn't peek into his mind. But even if she could, Logan trusted her to know that she wouldn't.
Logan couldn't help but chuckle. "Aw come on now, the way you reacted when I walked in that door and him freezin' my hand. A little bit of it was to make him jealous." He winked at her. "Jealousy can make a man do stupid things." He looked at her. "Even if ya can't touch Marie, you could make a man jealous. Hell, ya can have 'em eatin' outta the palm of yer hand." With a smile he shook his head. "Because I did care about ya Marie, I always will. You mean more ta me than you will ever know darlin'."
Logan nodded, Jean had been all those things, it was true. "But you got me, something she never did. Think she was a little envious over the fact you could and did let yourself love me, and she couldn't." One thing he never did was remember her as the Phoenix, because that wasn't her, not by a long shot. "No.. don't ever want ta be her Marie." Logan was looking at his lap and then he glanced at her, his gaze softened. "You're beautiful, just the way you are. I think yer perfect and I wouldn't change a damn thing about ya."
He and Jean had their moment, her very last one before he ended her as she requested. That moment had changed him and he would never be the same. But he also knew in that final moment of hers, it wasn't him she was thinking about. It was Scott. His heart had crushed when that revelation hit him and he was left with nothing but her lifeless body in his arms, of the woman that had never loved him. He'd left his love for her on that island and didn't look back. "Good thing I'm gonna live a long time then." The smile he gave her was a sad one.
Logan listened to her once more, but something wasn't clicking and he could tell. it was the last thing she said that struck him in a bad way. "Careful there, startin' ta sound like me."
