Cadence made a face at Kurami and shook her head. "I'm not going to kill them. They're just stupid boys, not murderers. I'm not a murderer either." Killing was an absolute last resort. Always. There was too much of that in the world today without her adding to it. Perhaps she should have been a little more afraid of her companion than she was. There was a disconnect somewhere, though. Sometimes it made her fearless. Sometimes it made her too afraid for her own good. Sometimes it kept her from feeling anything at all. This was the case now as she watched the leftover attackers scramble to their feet and follow their friend. No emotion whatsoever.
After a long moment, Cadence turned to look at the girl and her blank expression took on something more sympathetic. Her fear and confusion was a look she recognized and it was painful to see. "Are you all right?" The question was softly asked, as though speaking too loud might be a wrong move. She walked over to the girl and casually looked her over. "Did they hurt you?" Winter's voice was in her head asking the same questions. It was like a repeat of their first encounter, only Cadence had been close to death and Winter was the one doing the saving.
"My name is Cadence," she offered, her Scottish brogue thicker as she gave her name. A frown turned down the corners of her lips a fraction. "Why were those men attacking you?"
