Most people take a step back when a stranger takes a step closer. X-23 stayed her ground, her brow lifting when Scott was in her bubble of personal space. If he really thought she was Logan's kid and he'd seen what she could do, he was pretty ballsy to be as close to her as he was. "Seven years is a long time to be away from anywhere. At lot can change." Or everything. This guy was going to pop a vessel when he got there. And knowing his ability, maybe that wasn't such a good thing.
When he spoke of Jean, X-23 could tell his pulse quickened fractionally. Jean had meant something to him. There was a flush of color just beneath the surface of his skin that belied his cool exterior. Did he know she was dead as well? The more this guy talked, the more she realized she was going to have to be the harbinger and set him straight.
"X-23 is my number," she explained as he walked back toward the truck. "I knew who you were, Scott Summers, the minute I saw you pumping gas. I was there the day Stryker brought you to Alkali and got you under his control. I was fourteen then, but I remember you. I remember all of you. The kids they stuck in my cell, the blue demon who thought I was one of them and rescued me as well. Magneto, Logan. I'd like to forget, but I can't." Her lips pursed, not at all thrilled about what she was going to have to do next.
"There are things you should know before you go back there. I'm not good with the whole touchy-feely stuff so forgive me if this sounds cold. But Jean is dead. They all think you're dead, too. You both have memorial stones out by the gardens. So does Xavier. He died not long after they all thought you died. I don't know how or what happened; I try not to listen to the constant chatter and I don't go digging around to find out information on stuff that doesn't concern me any. But you seem like a decent guy and I can't see what good you going there and not knowing this stuff already would do."
She didn't feel bad, exactly, for just spitting it all out there like that. Just uncomfortable. "Ororo Munroe is the headmistress right now. Magneto lives at the mansion so he can help some girl with headaches. Half of the school is still in a state of ruin. It wouldn't be fair to let you go on your way without telling you any of that." As an afterthought she added, "And my name is Laura."
