Warren lifted his glass and shared her smile, repeating, "To good friends," before their glasses touched and they drank. As they ate, they talked about memories of Xavier's starting from the day Warren arrived, the fated day Xavier's almost closed for good, to the day he moved away for business school and experiences they'd been through while away from the security of the mansion. It was easy conversation filled with laughter and a handful of quieter moments when things that were darker had happened. Warren lamented over not getting to know Charles Xavier at all and Kitty told him stories about the older man that made him know he would have really liked the professor.
He listened to her when she talked about the studio she'd been with and why they let her go. If it had been him he'd have made a fuss, but Kitty was handling the situation with dignity and he admired her for that. He told her about his thoughts on the security system in hopes to get her opinion on it and listened to what she had to say. Once dessert was ordered, Warren took the opportunity to pull Kitty to her feet and get her to go with him and join the smattering of other couples dancing around the piano platform. It wasn't quite like dancing with his sister because there was definitely an attraction to her, but he knew there was no real chemistry between them. They were good friends and he was perfectly fine with their relationship staying that way.
Over tiramisu he explained how the company had gotten less cocky and more realistic by the time the second wave of shots were made available and they had forms for mutants to sign saying they wouldn't sue if anything happened. He also reminded Kitty that it was perfectly okay to question her faith. People did it all the time, just like they converted from one religion to another. It was all about personal choice and conviction.
The ride back to the mansion was somewhat quieter than the ride to the restaurant, only because both of them were stuffed and sleepy. It was close to eleven by the time they were walking inside, both careful to be quiet as they reached the second floor landing. He left Kitty with a kiss to her cheek and a tight embrace. Then it was up to the third floor to claim a guest room for the night.
He'd have to talk to Ororo about getting a real room soon. Warren knew that once he came back officially, it would be awhile before he left.
