That made him smile. There wasn't a soul in any part of this world that he knew of that genuinely gave a damn about him. Except one, and he hadn't seen her in years. But yet it did nothing change a thing between them. She looked different, she'd blossomed into a young woman, he still looked the same, not a day older. But Logan was pretty sure no matter how much time passed and them be apart, they could see each other and pick right back up where they left off. Marie didn't see the Wolverine, she saw Logan, no matter what he did she saw the man, not the beast. And he was pretty sure she always would.
"Missed ya too.. though I gotta admit I always knew how you were doing. Stopped by New Orleans one you'd settled. Found someone I could trust and they kept me up ta date on how you were doin'." He nodded as she talked about her former love. "Never thought that kid was good enough fer ya anyway. Smartass little prick." The last bit was muttered a bit. Now that was interesting and he turned toward her. "Damn... tore a page from my book did ya?" Then he was staring straight ahead again and snorted. "Damn right you don't need any romantic complications."
He hadn't even heard of the girl while he was there. "Never heard of her. Met Paige though, and Laura." That one he was still chewing on. The girl claimed to be his clone. If it was true he wondered just how similar they were. Poor girl, he'd never force this life on his worst enemy. Stryker had deserved what he'd got. "The Irish? Well ain't that a kick in the ass. I mean I know I'm not around a lot.. but had she given me reason to like that I damn sure woulda taken it seriously. Pisses me off ta be honest. I'm good enough to call when shit gets neck deep, but not good enough ta entrust with the school. Chuck wouldn'ta had a problem with it." As old as he was, Logan still had a respect a son would have for a father he admired towards that man.
That made him chuckle and he winked at her. "You 'n me both darlin'. Guess we're just too angry fer the like of them." Marie had gotten wise over the years obviously, that only meant she'd been hurt. Once too often he'd wager. "Think he's gotten way past the door Marie... he's seated on the throne, moving them all like chess pieces an' they won't even know it til it's too late."
Hearing her say those words bothered him. Logan didn't want her to be that much like him. "Hey, ya got me. I ain't much I know. But I damn well know ya need me. Ya always have." He wasn't much one for being a hero, but he remembered when she was younger and looked at her like a knight in shining armor. "Need ta too.. no tellin' where I'd be if you hadn't snuck into my truck that night. Damn sure wouldn't be here and ever went to Xavier's."
He slung a hand in his pocket. "Ya know me, I like ta have my own place, no matter how horrible it is. But you can bet I'll be over often. So, lead the way, don't think my place is suitable for ya." He nearly froze and coughed a bit. "Memory serves it was you sneaking in on me at night. Though with that incentive..."
