a little bit later...
The sounds of fighting had died down and the evacuees stopped coming for long enough that Gambit felt safe in shutting the tunnel entrance and doing a quick recon of the mansion interior for any stragglers - X-People to save or invaders to kill. The third floor was what he checked first, coming back to the second afterwords to make sure the secret door to the secret tunnel hadn't been disturbed. It was still how he'd left it.
So he sped silently down the stairs to the first and began on the side that showed the most destruction. A wall had been taken out, though no bodies were nearby - probably cleared out by that strange girl with the wailing and the chanting zombies. The lack of bodies made searching easier, in a way. He didn't have to check to see if any were playing possum.
Gambit came around the corner just past the broken wall and saw a huddled body with four arms. He didn't remember seeing any student like that, but the person - couldn't tell if it was a guy or girl yet - looked really scared. His staff came out, telescoping open as he approached cautiously, "'ello? You okay?"
