Feel This
Who: Kitty and Rogue
What: A talk about feelings, betrayal, boys, and a referance to an Elton John song.
When: Saturday morning
Where: The Gym
Rating: G
Rogue woke up fairly early Saturday morning to find the sun streaming in through her balcony doors. She rolled over to her side and smiled sleepily, thankful for the sun as a change from the overcast and snowy days of recent. Today there were no classes, which meant the students and, most likely, most of the adults would still be asleep. it was still fairly early, after all. She remembered Saturdays at the mansion. They were for sleeping in first, having fun second.
Deciding coffee sounded better than staying in bed for a change, she pulled a loose, open sweater over her pajamas and left her room to walk to the staff kitchen on bare feet. It came as a surprise to see the coffee pot already on, and already half empty. That meant someone was up. Rogue helped herself, then wandered downstairs with mug in hand. A quick peek showed her Bobby's door was still closed and there was silence on the rest of the floor. The first floor wasn't much different. She found Ororo in her office already, and on the phone. She waved as she passed the open doorway, then continued down the hall. Classrooms were quiet and empty, but there was quiet music coming from somewhere. Rogue decided to follow it, realizing it was coming from the gym.
Along the furthest wall to the front, well away from the basketball hoops and the nets that sat in wait for use was a wall of mirrors on a rolling, foldaway cart. In front of the mirrors was a long barre that also appeared to be able to move if it needed to. The music she heard, Send Me A Song came from a pink iPod sitting in a base of the same color. Well away from the barre, a girl with dark hair and a slender figure was dancing.
Rogue was quiet as she watched, not wanting to intrude or distract, just wanting to observe. Ballet was never anything she'd had any particular interest in personally, but she could appreciate the art in it. The girl moved is such flowing motion; a lift of her arm, the curve of her hand, the point of the toe. She would go up on pointe, pirouette, leap gracefully and land with a soft pat. When she turned to do a particular move, she saw Rogue. The two met eyes and her dancing stopped.
"I'm sorry," Rogue quickly apologized, shocked at first to realize it was Kitty, but soon remembering Bobby mentioning that Kitty danced. "Didn't mean to intrude."
"No," Kitty said, breathless. She padded over to her iPod to turn the sound down, then grabbed a hand towel from her bag to wipe the sweat from her face. "It's fine. I need to take a break anyway."
Searching for something to say, Rogue said, "When Bobby told me you were a dancer I was kinda surprised. But seein' you...beautiful."
A small smile tugged at Kitty's lips. "Thanks." She threw the towel back to her bag and rested her hands on her hips. "I was wondering when I was actually going to run into you. Seemed like you were building a base camp in your room or something. I was going to come up and say hi, but..."
"You could've." This was, by far, the most awkward reunion so far. Rogue looked down at her coffee, finding it entirely too interesting. "Just tryin' to stay outta people's way."
"You wouldn't be in the way." Kitty's tone suggested it was a stupid thing to think. She seemed to realize it and frowned slightly, crossing her arms. "Sorry. I didn't mean it to come out that way."
Rogue forced a smile and shrugged. "It's fine. I should let you get back to it."
She turned to go, but Kitty called out, "Rogue, wait." Turning back around, Rogue looked at her patiently. "When you left, I thought we'd gotten to a point where we were okay with each other. I thought we were on our way to being friends."
"We were," Rogue conceded. "Kit, it had nothin' to do with you. Had nothin' to do with Bobby."
"But it did." She frowned. "He was really hurt when you disappeared. At least he was after he stopped worrying something had happened to you.."
"Bobby an' I have already talked. We're fine, Kitty. I already apologized to him."
Kitty didn't reply. Instead, she looked at the floor. Shaking her head she admitted, "I don't want there to be weirdness between us. Especially if you're going to be here for awhile." She looked up, tentative. "I just needed to get that off my chest."
"Then lay it on me. I can take it."
This seemed to surprise Kitty. She blinked. "That's...really all I have."
"So you weren't mad at me for leavin' the school," Rogue assessed with a smirk, "just for leavin' Bobby." Kitty's sheepish expression made her chuckle softly. With a humored sigh she told Kitty, "He's got a good friend in you, Kitty."
"Thanks." She bit her lip. "So, are we good?"
Rogue nodded. "We're good. An' I promise to make more of an effort to be more social. If I don't, you have permission to come up an' drag me from my room."
This made Kitty finally smile. "Deal." Rogue nodded in acknowledgment, then turned once more to leave. Once again, Kitty stopped her by calling after her. "Yeah?" Kitty crossing the room to take Rogu into a hug was not expected, and she froze for a moment. But when Kitty didn't quickly let go, Rogue returned the embrace.
"Figured I'd hug you while I still could."
Rogue nodded, her smile fading some as they separated. "Trust me. I'm takin' advantage of this whole bein' able to touch people thing. I know it won't last forever."
"Yeah?" Kitty gave a mischievous smile. "Taking advantage of it with your sexy new friend?"
With a laugh, Rogue shook her head. "I'm sorry, I don't think that's any of your business."
"What's his name?" Kitty pressed. "Remy? Super cute."
"And super not your type."
Kitty pretended to be offended. "You haven't seen me for seven years. How do you know what my type is?"
"Trust me," Rogue grinned. "He ain't it." She sobered some. "I really am sorry if I hurt you by hurtin' Bobby." Kitty waved it off, giving Rogue a feeling of relief. "Okay, I'm really goin' now. Get back to work, Tiny Dancer."
She stood there and watched as Rogue left. Only when the redhead was gone did Kitty walk back to her iPod, turn the volume back up, and get back to work as ordered.
