Bobby wasn't going to argue his merits or dating difficulties with her. He appreciated what she was saying. He hadn't felt used by her. He never pressured her or complained. They would have figured something out had they stayed together long term. As shallow as he was capable of being, his feelings for her had been so much more than physical. He wasn't sure he could handle a completely non-physical relationship at this point in his life, but his current situation was a pretty non-physical one by default. He was happy though. He was doing things he loved and had a house full of friends. He didn't really lament his lack of relationships hardly at all any more.
Bobby had his own memories of each of the three. He admired them all. He still found himself trying to follow their examples. Their sacrifices, and their senseless deaths were sources of motivation to him. In Bobby's mind Jean was not at fault for the deaths of the other two. It wasn't her, it was some crazy combination of pushing herself so hard to save everyone, and the all consuming enormity of her unbridled power.
"I know this sounds hokey, and about anyone else it might be, but it's up to us to be the monument.He wouldn't want a stone in the ground, he would want a living breathing growing monument to his work and his philosophy. It's one of the things that makes me wake up every day wanting to teach and protect and go out in society and prove him right... you know... show people that he was right. Show people that we can make a better future by working together." He shook his head. "This place always brings this out in me, sorry" He had a smile on his face.
