She watched him turn in his seat, the way with which he moved to be more comfortable and keep the situation casual. "Dishonesty is a shield a lot of people hide behind," she countered. "Sometimes the truth would serve less of a purpose than a lie." She was, of course, speaking about her own life. There was truth, and then there was honesty. They were not the same things in her book. His words made her quirk an eyebrow. So it would seem there was a use for this connection after all. Not that Nathaniel was saying he'd use her, but she was a hypothetical assistance.
When his hand lifted, she didn't move a fraction. There was the constant instinct to be prepared for a fight, but within the confines of this car she couldn't see Nathaniel trying anything. Even if he did there was little doubt in her mind that she had the upper hand. He still didn't know what she was and what she could do. "Sometimes it's a lot easier to only have yourself to worry about." She wasn't going to try and argue any of the points he'd made or explain anything away. It didn't matter.
The fact that he didn't even ask about the girl struck her as a little odd. If the roles were reversed, she would not have asked but it was because she wouldn't have cared. Nathaniel had cared in enough, in whatever capacity, to assist her now. Why would he not ask about the girl? She got out of the car when the question was asked, suspicion on her face. Once the door was closed, she jammed her hands into her pockets and looked around. It would be nice to get a shower again, especially since she knew there was blood on her arms and clothing. Suddenly, she felt rather ashamed of the way she looked.
Taking her hands out, X-23 crossed her arms to hide the blood, pursing her lips. There was irritation in her expression when she reached for one of his bags, offering to carry it. Not because she was irritated with Nathaniel but because she didn't know what to do with herself. "I have money," she told him as they were walking through the parking lot. I can help pay for the room this time."
