For a minute there, Kitty was feeling like she'd thrown a party and no one was going to show up. it was not a pleasant feeling. The music, she assumed anyway, brought in a few of the students who'd stayed behind over the holidays. Not all of them had a place to go, and not all the kids who had places to go wanted to leave. Having gone home just for a few days had reminded her how much she treasured Xavier's and the freedoms being here allowed.
She greeted everyone who entered, still very much excited about the gathering itself. The masks people wore ranged from simple to truly artistic. One student decided just to paint his face. Another apparently decided not to wear a mask at all. Kitty saw LJ and smiled at the girl warmly. She'd asked to have her as one of the students she was there for as a mentor and was still waiting on the decision to be made. Making her way over, Kitty noticed how nervous the younger woman looked. She knew in part it was due to her mutation, though she could also guess it had to do with feeling a little out of place.
"Hey," Kitty greeted warmly. "I'm glad you came." When she and JP had discussed this party, LJ was one of the students who came to mind as possible party skippers. "We haven't really been formally introduced. I'm Kitty, no Miss Pryde or anything. I know the name is says on your school file, but what would you prefer to be called?" She really didn't want to start off any kind of relationship by calling someone a name they hated.
