The lights in the church flickered. Lorna took a deep breath and they stopped. Barely. She had to force herself to calm down and even then she still had the urge to just start running.
But if she could wait until near the end, until communion, then she could sneak out easily as everyone was milling around in lines back and forth. And at least she'd have communion.
She shouldn't have come. She should've stayed in the safe house that her mother's friend had provided and not try to recreate a family Christmas tradition without her family.
Suddenly, she really, really missed her mom and dad, and felt acutely the loss of her real mother.
