The odds were pretty stacked against him that he would find another person who knew Xavier, in a bar, in New Orleans. The man got around, Remy figured that much, but there was no possible way for him to have been so close to so many people that Remy should run into one of them casually in a place like the Maple Leaf. Not that the encounter had ended up being what anyone in their right mind would refer to as casual, but it had started off innocently enough.
Remy's face fell at the mention of Charles' death, and he sighed. He wasn't completely surprised. The Professor had never gone so long without at least checking in on him, and with everything that had happened... he'd more or less chosen not to even think about it. "Good thing. About the school. World needs places like that."
He looked right back at her when she seemingly examined his face, picking up a hint of suspicion... or maybe not completely that. She'd lied about her name. That wasn't a complete surprise, given Ororo's confusion when he'd called her Anna. He raised an eyebrow. "Marie? Pretty. Guess I'll have to change my phone now..."
He smiled when she inquired about his exact relationship with Xavier. That was a tough one to answer without incriminating himself or making Xavier sound like he was a shady character. "Odd jobs, here and there. Lots of intelligence gathering. I'm... I'm good at gettin' into places I shouldn't be, and better at gettin' back out again without being caught once I'm there." Nodding, he added, "Man wanted me to come up to train at his school, but... just never seemed like the right time to do it."
