"Maybe not a bad person, but..." She shook her head and left it at that. Rogue had always been a lot harder on herself than anyone else. She'd been living with that inner critic in her head for over twenty years now, so it was not an easy thing not to listen to.
When Remy looked at her at the mention of Xavier, something told her that the conversation was about to take a rather revealing turn. She just hadn't expected it to be this revealing. Her mouth dropped open slightly, looking at Remy as though for the firs time. "Y...you knew Xavier?" What were the odds? Yes, he was a headliner in the fight for mutant rights, but the way Remy said it was like he knew him more than just a name and a face. His further explanation only confirmed as much.
"You worked for Professor Xavier?" she repeated, her tone quiet but incredulous. Rogue lifted a hand to scratch her forehead. If she believed in a higher power, this might be taken as a sign. But she looked at him, her confusion mixing with sadness. "He died about seven...eight years ago. It was right around the time the cure came out." The details weren't important right now. It would also take a very long time to explain. "He left the school in Ro's care. They were gonna close it for awhile, but she couldn't in the end. She knew too many people still needed that place."
She was silent for a moment, just looking up into his face and trying to absorb the sudden information. Ororo hadn't known Remy, hadn't recognized him. As far as Rogue understood, Ro and Jean knew just about everything the professor was into. Why would she not know Remy. "I gotta tell you, my name's not Anna. It's actually Marie. But I haven't gone by anythin' other than Anna for a long time now." Her eyes narrowed in question. "What did you do for the professor, if you don't mind my askin'?"
