Ben has observed that people rarely make sense. This week has been different.

Suddenly things are clearer, simpler; when someone needs to go somewhere they say it nice and easy. They always have an explanation even if he doesn’t understand it or other people think it’s odd, an explanation is enough – it means things make sense.

It’s nice.

A nice birthday treat: people stopped making everything so complicated.

Ben has such good friends.

And a surprise party!? It’s so kind of them it brings a tear to Ben’s eye.

Marc's on the phone when Deniz comes home; he has his cold face on, which either means unpleasant business partners on the other end, or Roman’s father.

"That's regrettable, Mrs. Wagner, but I'm not interested in your moral judgement," Marc says coolly. His mother’s name stops Deniz in his tracks, confused. "And as for your son, well, that’s your loss." A smile chases the chill from Marc's expression when he looks up, spotting Deniz. "I happen to think he's great just the way he is."

Deniz can't help his silly grin at all. Marc still surprises him almost every day.

Heeeeh! DeMarc love. I love the association that Deniz makes first - that it's the face Marc uses for Roman's father and then he discovers that it's being used to stand up to him and it makes him all happy and that makes me all happy (and punctuation retarded).

And I love every fic that delves into the Marc/Deniz relationship, and this development is exactly what I would imagine to have happened between these two. Lovely!

I'm slightly loving the idea of Marc as the crappy-parent shield! He needs a superhero costume!

Bending in on himself Mike brings his arms up feebly to protect his head. Lars keeps punching, hurling his body weight into Mike’s side, one fist lands on his left shoulder, two have caught his chin. Lars is yelling but Mike’s ears are ringing too much to understand him.

So much for worrying Lars wouldn’t care. Whatever this is, it’s not indifference. He’s definitely regretting not calling first though.

Mike retreats as much as possible into the wall of the Canadian Olympic ice rink. Lars punches the wall twice then steps back. He stares and says stupidly, “You’re alive then.”

I cannot tell you how much I approve of your Mike/Lars theme! *flails* I love this, it's so characteristic of these two. YOU'RE ALIVE OMG YOU ASSHOLE I WILL PUMMEL YOU INTO OBLIVION. Heeeh. It's clearly insane that this makes me feel mushy but it does. Awwwww, soulmate violence <333 (lolol, yeah, IDE).

“Who am I to judge? You know this is as close as I will ever get to a perfect life. Renate, this place, friends like you and your boys. But sometimes... Don't know if Roman ever told you about Diana's mother and me... If she walked through this door right now, suitcase in hand, I honestly don't know what I would do...

Marc's eyes were still closed when he answered the phone. His voice thick with sleep, syllables unusually slow.

"Hello?"

"Marc, hello."

Hesitant, cautious, unmistakable.

"Roman?" Superfluous question. "What's wrong?" It was, after all, three AM.

A soft, self-conscious chuckle. "I just..."

Marc sighed. Of course he just. He always just. But this was the first time in months he'd heard it. His stomach twisted; how he hated those words; how he loved that voice.

"Look, Roman, I don't think-"

"No." Decisive. "I'm sorry, I won't call again."

Silence. Neither hung up. Marc inhaled deeply, shut his eyes again.

"How's Essen?"
