Aspyn took the sunglasses and helmet silently, her Uncle’s words taking root. No, they were sending people like her here, and if they were doing that, then she would bet that they were sending people far far worse than her as well. She listened intently, not even taking time to admire their mode of transportation. This was nothing like she’d thought; some of it seemed so much better and yet Ryder’s words brought the realization that some of it was just as bad as the rumors.
She had no real sense of time as they flew along streets and avenues, her cool blue eyes watching the people they passed and noting where sections of the city were still in a serious state of destruction. It was like there was no one in those pockets and yet she felt that tingle of being watched. Sensing eyes, she tightened her grip on Ryder. Soon enough the city petered away and they were instead surrounded by trees. Upward they climbed and Aspyn was surprised by the glimmer of glass and stark white that rose up in front of them. This was where he lived?
It was HUGE. The teen was in complete awe as Ryder pulled into the garage, where she noticed a few cars and more cycles. As her Uncle moved into the house proper, Aspyn scrambled to keep up. There was just so much of it and it was so beautiful. Walking amongst it all, she felt dirty and unworthy. Aspyn began to nervously pluck at her clothes and hair and when he told her she could have the uppermost bedroom, her eyes almost bugged out of her head. “The whole floor?!” A room of her own? She could fit their last apartment in just the bedroom and she’d had to share a bed with Ash.
