Aspyn hadn’t felt this safe since the last time he’d held her in a similar way. It didn’t matter that she was no longer a little girl; it didn’t matter that she’d rather slit her wrists than have a man touch her like this…this was her Uncle Ryder, and he was like no one else.
If she was so absolutely relieved, she might have laughed at his musings but at the moment, everything was just flooding right out of her. Everything…and it felt wonderful. Eventually she began to calm and settle back into herself. Pulling away from those strong arms, she wiped carelessly at her eyes and nose, smiling as he handed her a tissue. It was such a Mom kind of thing to do…at least she figured it was. The kiss on her forehead made her sigh. Her milky green eyes were so hurt and confused as she glanced up into her Uncle’s face, “I didn’t do what they said I did, Uncle Ryder. “ Well, that wasn’t entirely true. “I mean, I did say I would kill them, but I didn’t mean it like that. And I didn’t freaking kidnap Ash, I was taking him back!” Her mind wasn’t really in a place to rationalize that Ryder wouldn’t understand a thing she was talking about; especially since Aspyn would assume that the cops would have told him everything that she’d told them.
