Still averting her eyes, she began to pull away from him, even as he pressed her for an explanation. He was too close, his very presence clouded her judgment and she knew the further she got from him the clearer she could think. But even as he withdrew his arms he seemed to still hold her there. "No, it was...a great date and you were wonderful. It'll be a beautiful memory for us both to keep."
Finally she looked up and met his eyes, tears welling in her own at the hurt and confusion reflected back at her. "No, you're not a freak," I am, she thought. And she would get them both killed, just like she had gotten her parents both killed. "You're wonderful, but-" she was rambling now, knowing that if she was so indecisive in her decision, he would press her and break down her barriers as he had the first time. "But I can't do this. I can't be with a vampire, I can't be part of your world."
Her pale eyes were pleading with him to understand, to just let her go. "You said if I didn't want a second date, you would leave me alone. And I don't want another date. So please, you...promised. Just leave me alone," she begged, feeling her heart break at the words as they left her lips.
